  • Wilkins...

I know its 3 games into the season and we dont have AW yet and blah blah blah..... but I am concerned that the mystery player that can turn this program around might see this team after the first 10 games and see a 3-7 or 4-6 team and might not want any part of it. Anyone else have a bad feeling?? I feel sick to my stomach right about now

He could also see guaranteed playing time and want to come even more...

I don't think it bears considering. I had that same sick feeling when we lost to Platteville but we still signed Prosser and Milos. I hope Wilkins stays firm in his verbal, but who knows what the NCAA will have to say about it either which way to begin with.

Be nice to recover with a 39 pt victory over FGCU.

What exactly is a realistic expectation for Wilkins anyway (if he does come)? I know a lot has been written, but can someone summarize for me what kind of piece he could even be for this year's team? Realistically?

Well if the hype is true, a 6'10 player with quicks, ballhandling skills, and a long range game. If the hype is true, that's a huge piece for any college team.

Realistically, even if he's that talented, it seems like it'd take us a long time to work him into the fabric of the team.

At some point one of the big men that Les brings in needs to live up to the hype that has been laid on them...

Will Egolf...lights out in practice...added 30 lbs. of muscle...will be a better player than Carlton Fay...most improved over the summer
...and yet we've gotten absolutely zero production from him to this point in his second year in the program.

Anthony Thompson...3-star recruit that picked BU over offer from Texas A&M...2nd best big man Les has had at BU...added 40 lbs. of muscle...was going to be the difference-maker for this year's team...and what have we gotten from him thus far? Right now, he is the absolute last scholarship player coming off the bench in his second year in the program.

I hope Wilkins gets here...I hope he is a quality player...because someone, anyone...taller than 6'5" needs to live up to the hype if this team is going to have any degree of success in the near future...

I agree with most of your points, but I personally havent seen any mention of AT being a difference maker this year. ThaT being said, it might be time to put AT on floor to see what he can and cant do. I personally think that AT is at least a year away from any meaningful contribution, but AT cant be as soft as DC can he???????

I can't see how anyone can be as soft as DC, but there has to be a reason why he isn't playing.

Apparently, DC is much better in practice.

Guys let's leave the bigs out of this! Can he shoot? We need a shooter even when AW get's back. I believe we will be a much better team with AW. Right now we are lacking a true offensive threat for the 3. SM needs to be set up and I wish he would shoot it when he's wide open instead of trying to dribble and shoot.
IMHO SM should not have recieved the player of the game award. His D was horrible. TW should have recieved it.

If the bigs were able to contribute anything offensively we would not have to rely on our 3 pointers so much.

The other team was playing zone. The 3 point shooting or some type of dribble penetration with some passing and shot capability needs to happen before the bigs can go inside and dominate. Every team will play zone on us until we can string together some semblance of a good shooting team. POB would not have been able to do to much against a packed in zone D. Our 3 point shooting is very woeful.

This team's problems are poor shooting, poor ball security, and matador defense. One player, whether it be Andrew Warren or John Wilkins, will not solve these team-wide problems. They may help in some areas, but they aren't going to teach Sam Singh how to play help side defense, or teach Sam Maniscalco how to not get beaten consistently off the dribble.

I don't think the staff ever made comments about AT being ready to be the difference maker this year...I was moreso referring to a lot of the kool-aid hype about AT that was swirling around on this board during the summer...It seemed that a majority of the posters on this site were penciling AT in as the starting center this year...some were predicting that he would average a double-double this year, etc. I think that most were taking that '2nd best big man Les has ever had' comment and generating an impossible amount of hype for AT to live up to this early in his career...
Now, we are a few games in to our season...our post players are underwhelming, to put it kindly, and yet AT can't even find his way on the floor over this group of painfully flawed big men...so it just creates more question marks about the future of this team.
