  • CBS' Gregg Doyel Puts Foot in Mouth

Any BU fans recall these columns?

Doyel had Patrick going 19th to the Kings, and when someone questioned the idiocy of that prediction, he answered,

"Cedric Simmons and Hilton Armstrong ahead of Patrick O'Bryant? Even you can't be that dumb, can you?

Every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Well Gregg, Patrick went #9 and
Armstrong went #12 with Simmons going #15.
Maybe it's time to quit writing about college basketball and do something else....oh, that's right you already are.

Illini fans are in denial. Always have been and always will be.

This link was from another poster in another thread. It shows a post draft analysis. See for yourself and then print them and show to your Illini friends.

They got rated in 12 categories from 1-10 and totalled. OB 92 vs Augie 84.

OB outscored Augie in Athleticism, Size, Defense, Strength, Quickness, Rebounding, Potential, and Intangibles.

Augie outscored OB in Leadership, NBA Ready and Post Skills.

I found it interesting in OB's Weaknesses, though, most are NOT negatives. Mentions of him 'working hard, showing great progress, will improve in time, above average (jumper) for a 7 footer'.

But Augie's Weaknesses were NEGATIVES. Comments like 'lacks the body to handle inside play at the next level, lacks the strngth to grab rebounds like in college, needs 15-20 pounds but may affect his quickness, lacks an offensive game, offensive skills mechanical and predictable, mid-range shot improved but not a huge strength, and not a real shot blocker despite his good length'.

With Augie's Weaknesses, little surprised he still got a higher rating for post skills. But I guess he is right now, but it won't be for long. As for NBA ready, well, if Augie isn't ready after 4 years in the B10 and a NCAA title game under his belt, I'd be ashamed to claim him as one of my own. And as for leadership - I say savour the flavour. I doubt Augie will be any kind of a leader in the NBA other than the leader to the end of the bench coming out of time outs.
