Well...my concern here then would be for Sammy 1st and then the team...If he is hurt, he needs to take some time and sit longer...

We've come to realize over the years watching these guys that playing hurt only increases chances for setback and time off, AND it increases the chances of hurting your team...

I haven't read this entire thread but to me I think Sam just needs to slow down a bit. With Daniel graduating this has really become Sam's team. I know he's not a senior, but he's a captain and the starting point guard. That'd be alot for anyone to handle and get accustomed to. I believe that as the season progresses Sam will become more accustomed to his new role and will start to look like the point guard that he was from last year.

I love watching Sam play and I think it's pretty clear to anyone who watched the team last year that he's a bit off from his best form last year, and I really think there is some creedence to the thought that he's not 100% healthy.

Sam was benefited last season, as was Ruffin, by having a 6'5" guard, who just happened to the best 3 point shooter in the country, playing along side of him. IMO he is talented enough to work his way through this slump and will find other ways to score besides the 3 point shot.

It seems as though SM has been forced to go to his left in his first two games. Is it possible that teams have reviewed the tape and found a chink in his armour?

Whether SM is feeling the pressure or nursing a nagging injury, I hope he can work his way through this little slump. He handled a lot of adversity well last season, so I'm betting he'll turn it around.

All of SM "problems" are because he doesn't ahve the daniel ruffin cushion anymore...and it takes a little bit to get on track with that.
He needs to find his pace/role/etc. for this team because we lost 2 BIGTIME guards that helped his game develop quite a bit

not worried at all. As for the "slower" comment...SM makes everyone look like molasses

I like Sam as player. Thought he was great for us last year, and if he's got to work through a few things, so be it. From what is said about him, he seems to have a great work ethic that I'm sure he'll overcome whatever is the cause of this slump.

It's funny how every year we have that one player that divides the fans. A few years ago it was J.J. Then it was Matt Salley. Now, apparently, it's Sam.

The good news is that JJ and Matt each proved to be very valuable to our team. Now its Sams turn to prove doubters wrong.
This is just the tip of the iceberg...

So true and you can add JC to that list his Sophomore year...MS was though a case of his own. I even had a few choice words about him but by the end of the year I understood why JL played him. The same will be said about SM. He is needed as our leader at the 1 by the time conference play begins.

I think it's way too early to say that Sam is dividing the fans like JJ and Matt did. It's true that Sam has had two pretty sub par games but he may be injured and like I posted earlier in this thread I think he's still settling into his role as team leader on and off the court. I just feel like Sam isn't the same type of lightning rod of a player for the fans that JJ and Matt were. At least I hope he doesn't become that guy. Sam's situation is so different from those other two guys because he's the point guard.

Just like to point out on one of SM's 'down games' he still had 14 points (2nd leading scorer), on 44% shooting, 4 rebs, 2 steals, he had four turnovers and only 1 assist, but 2 of the turnovers were questionably his fault. And when a team shoots 4-21 from behind the arc, it can be difficult to get assists... Is Sam playing at his peak? No, but the guy was a quarter (err, a fifth) of our offense that night...

I don't really think Sam is dividing the board...

it is still WAY to early to call SM under producing and not paying off.

                          it's been 2 games.
                          1) against a tough team
                          2) against a RANKED team

i'd like to see them play (non-preseason basketball) and then see hwo sam does

Earlier I asked why should SM start if he is injured and not producing because of it....I'm not sure if this will get deleted also but I'm really curious as to what people think about him still playing-our star and leader- while injured and therefore not producing..AW isn't playing because of precautions..why not SM?

sorry to repost this but I don't see how me asking this question is detrimental to Bradley or to SM but by all means delete again if you must and I won't post it again

Every case is handled differently. We have heard rumors of a minor injury issue with Sam, but nothing has been officially announced. The BU medical staff is outstanding, and they are careful in their evaluation of injuries and allowing players to play. Some injuries can hamper a players ability to perform, but are not serious enough to restrict play.

If it's not serious enough to restrict play then why should we use it as an excuse for his lack of production?
