    • I think Jimmy feels he is playing his best 5 guys. I don't think Egolf or Thompson has done enough to get minutes at this point.

I agree that Wilson has trouble against bigger athletic players, but I do not believe he handle the ball well enough to be a true "3". He has a high dribble and has been called for carrying a few times already.

The big problem today was the way we tried to attack their zone. They are very long and it was tough for us to move the ball. Plus, we need to make open 3's.

Honestly, I think Jimmy is really playing Roberts, Wilson, Dunson, Sam M, and Collins because he feels those are the best 5 players. If you were playing a pickup game, I don't think there is any way you would play Egolf or Thompson over Roberts, which would push Wilson to the 4 spot.

        • I think we are going to be pretty good this year. Keep in mind, we are playing 3 freshman and another first year player AND have been without our best player for two games. I like Roberts a lot, and think our future looks good.

          • Right now TB is really coming on as a freshman in my book! I really like his game...EM seemed to struggle today! Welcome to the board B96!

            • Overall I'm very happy we have been able to play this game @ a basketball power like Florida!

              • I'll take the optimistic viewpoint here. I thought we looked good pretty today. If we could shoot the three like in the past it would have been one helluva game!

I fear this may be a long season as Billy Donovan (an excellent coach) exposed BU to everyone when he went to a zone and forced us to shoot from outside. Unless, Sam M. and Andrew W. can hit the three this year with consistency then we will suffer the same fate as SIU did last year.

Big Mike, Aw is going to help but he is not the whole answer. We need shooters and don't seemed to be blessed with solid consistent 3 ball shooting. Losing Matt Roth really was bigger then any loss. Our offense is designed for guards and we talented ones but not great shooters. Using TW as a 4 as someone has said is not his best spot, but until we go big we will not see him at the 3 IMO. Lets hope our shooting improves because I do like the athletes we have but points go on the scoreboard not running and jumping ability. I see good things down the road.

                  • I guess I am a bit more positive. I thought Roberts looked pretty good again and we are getting more Offense out of DD than I thought we would. SS looks a lot better-gives solid minutes but I am worried he is playing as much as he is. DC looked much better in the second half. I really think TB will be awesome. He is a big surprise and I think he will need to get more minutes as the year goes on.

Now the bad....we just don't have the shooters to put this small a lineup on the floor. Things will improve with AW on the floor but I just don't see many other good outside shooters out there. This was a really poor outing for SM. TW did not give us the production we need out of him in a game like this.

not bad defense for chunks of the game but we wore out and then got burned by the 3.

                    • About what I expected, but I was very happy that we didn't quit and made this a competitive game for most of the contest. Without arguably our best player (I say arguably because Dodie Dunson is playing like an all-league guard), BU gave a very solid effort. Florida is a very good team that's very well-coached, and shouldn't lose too many games at home.

My only concerns at this point are shooting (we are a very poor 3 point shooting team, and Sam seems to be regressing in that area), and the lack of production from our big men (WE and AT DNP again, and Collins is non-existent). Sam needs to shoot better, and a big man needs to step up.

If I am Will Egolf, and I am getting DNP's, and see the signings of Milos and Prosser, and see a late-arrival freshman taking my minutes, I gotta take a real hard look in the mirror and wonder what my future is. I don't expect the kid to be all-world, but a 6'9" kid with his athletic ability should be contributing on a team that struggles inside.
                      Onward and Upward!

2 of our newcomers 3 point for today:
                            DD 3 for 8: .375
                            CR 3 for 6: .500

                            Terrible shooters all?

                            • Thanks Big Mike. As a BU alum and former athelte, I think this site is great.

I agree on Brown, I think is going to be a good player. I am not as concerned about AT as the rest of the board. From what I hear, the guy has skills but only weighs a shade over 200 lbs. I weigh a shade over 200 lbs and am 5-10 not 6-10, so he is not ready yet, but I think he will develop.

Although, we lost big, I think this was an important game for, because our new guys got to experience what top level DI ball is all about, and that will pay off in the end. Like I said in the previous post, this team looks pretty tough, and may be our best team since the sweet sixteen run.

                              • I'll take the realistic route. We're screwed. Same mistakes as last year but add on our inability to shoot the 3 (our MAIN advantage).

No post season and here's why.

We have four possible ways to get in.

                                1) Beat Florida for the at large 'signature win' argument (didnt happen)
                                2) Beat Michigan State for the same reason (wont happen)
                                3) Go on a ridiculous winning streak beginning in January and go to the MVC finals like in 2006. Small percentage chance of happening. We always have injury or other issues.
                                4) Win the MVC. We haven't done that in awhile. Dont think thats happening either.

We have 4 more games to learn how to shoot the 3 and then we're kind of screwed. I know its Florida and there was no chance of winning but we only showed up for 8-10 minutes tops. DC with his regular problems.
