Winning the Valley Tourney is likely the only shot that a Valley team has at getting into the Tournament this year...
I actually think our RPI won't be hurt too bad by the end of the non-conference schedule if we are able to go 9-2, losing only to Florida and Michigan State. Correct me if I'm wrong, but SIU-E will not affect our RPI one way or the other. I believe Florida, Michigan State, Butler, and even UIC and Milwaukee to an extent will balance out the others on the schedule. Maybe even Richmond.

I see four games that will bring our RPI down......UMKC, FGCU, ETSU, and SEMO.

I think this year is the first year SIU-E is division I. So, it will count towards our RPI.

It doesn't seem to be showing up on anyone else's RPI schedule. That's why I ask.

SIU-E is D-I...I guess the guys at realtimerpi.com must not have gotten the memo.

That's what I thought coming into the season, but never saw them listed so I began to wonder.

SIU-E is a provisional D-I school. I don't think wins over Provisional schools factor into the RPI. (Much like DII or DIII schools)

I am not sure if a win over a provisional D-I school is actually reflected to the selection committee members either. (Much like DII or DIII schools)

SIU-E is NOT eligible for the NCAA tournament, and they still play so many D-II opponents, that no eligible D-I would be allowed to do so.

I thought BU's RPI would take a big hit win or lose next week in Florida, but maybe I was wrong. We play the #13, and #82 teams down there. But Richmond, who I thought would be better than either UMCK or FGC coming into the year is a pitiful #331 in the RPI.

I think Richmond is a better team than the others we will be playing in Florida, the RPI is just messed up this early in the season.

I know, that's what scares me though. We may lose to the #331 ranked team.

Here are some comments from Jerry Palm:

                              September 12

The same 341 teams that counted in last year's RPI will count again this year. North and South Dakota States both join the ranks of fully qualified D-I schools and are now eligible for the postseason.
There are several other schools that may end up counting in the RPI, but that depends on their final schedules. Those are Bryant, New Haven, North and South Dakotas, Seattle and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. Houston Baptist is the only team that is on its way to D-I status that we know for certain will not count in this year's RPI.

                              September 16

I have been reviewing the schools that may count in the RPI this season and it looks like Bryant is the only newbie that will qualify.
Houston Baptist is playing a qualifying schedule, but is having some other issues with its transition to D-I, so for right now, HBU does not count in the RPI. That could change.
North and South Dakotas are playing a number of D-I teams, but not enough to count in the RPI this year. SIU-Edwardsville came close, but it looks like it won't count either.
New Haven just joined a D-II conference, so it looks like it has given up on moving to D-I. Whether that is true or not, it is certainly not playing a qualifying schedule and will not count in the RPI.
Seattle has not released its schedule yet, so its status is still pending.

                              November 1

Houston Baptist will count in the RPI this year after all, so they join Bryant as the only new RPI counters.

It's good IMO that SIU-E will not count, it won't drag down our RPI, which is one of the few ways mid-majors can show they belong to the Media, though many are trying to discount it nowadays.
