I don't think anyone here is actually suggesting that Whelliston was implying or downright saying we were the worst program last year....I'm pretty sure nobody believes that that's what he was doing. What it is that has everyone so vexed by it is that out of allll the programs that he could have chosen from to label a renegade program..and the majority of them much worse than ours...he chose to label us and called for JL's job over a couple of citations and an arrest that ended up getting about the same amount of penalty as a bad speeding ticket (please don't blow up over that comment..you know what i mean). It's just the principle of the matter not necessarily the matter itself. It's slightly unjust and unfair (where is he at calling for other head coach's jobs?)..but hey it's an unfair world and it was our turn to take some criticism on the national level. Did we do stupid stuff...yeah...did we deserve to be called a renegade program...no but oh well.

Overall I don't care...nobody else outside of Bradley-nation or even outside of bradleyfans.com cares anymore.

Don't agree with the bolded statement. TW and TCS suited up to play against ISU the night after their incident. TW even scored the game-winning points. It's not like their suspensions were handed out right away. Wasn't their punishment originally kept in-house and handled by having them do extra work after practice? It wasn't until JoJo Glasser stepped in that they were suspended for the WSU game.

JoJo really didn't do much of anything. I love President Glasser, but I don't understand why people really give her credit for that. Everything I have heard is that she didn't even weigh in until the last minute and even then, no decisions were changed... She did use the incident to spearhead an interesting, albeit, seeming inffective (to-date), new alcohol program on campus. But she really didn't have much to do with their disciplinary measures.

If I were KK, Bobby Parker, or esp. JL, I would have a hard time just pretending that never happened. I also don't believe if I were Kyle W. that I would simply show up to cover a game and expect everyone to ignore that type of statement.

You know, I say this as one of the biggest JL critics still around. . .JL wasn't very well liked in the coaching community when first hired, but he took it in stride and has built some very strong relationships amongst colleagues and in some instances even rival coaches.

He has also endeared himself in many ways in the coaching community which doesn't take well to outsiders. . .which JL was when he was hired.

In short, I'm sure he brushed it off and will be very cordial to Kyle.

That's because she was unaware of the incident until immediately prior to the second game after the incident, when a fan who had just read it in the paper that afternoon approached her about it. Now, granted, it was the police's fault for not releasing the report immediately to the media which fueled the fire.

Meaning the staff kept the incident and the discipline from her. A big no-no for a President whose #1 priority is establishing positive public relations and made it known on day 1 of her administration to be notified the instant anything remotely tarnishing the university image occurs. And that did not happen.

Hopefully, he makes it up to campus to check out the new construction.

I hope so too. . .it would make an interesting article about how Courtney Lee spurned BU for WKU because of "facilities" and the aggressive addressing of the issue by Bradley.

Here's something Whelliston will like.........

In last night's 2K Sports Classic game at UCLA, the UCLA Bruins found themselves in a real dogfight, and after a relatively easy first win against Prairie View A&M, in the Regional Final and for the rights to go to Madison Square Garden....they were battling for their lives against Miami (OH).

Miami actually led late in the game, and was within ONE-TWO POINTS even as deep into the game as the final minute!

So....with so many youngsters and freshmen on the UCLA roster, they decided to play their experienced guy Nikola Dragovic, who just a few days ago was bailed out of jail for beating up his girlfriend...and it was a move that actually made a difference in the game.

So just maybe Whelliston would have one of those "R"-words to describe UCLA as well.???

I'm not saying what TCS, TW, and Ruff did was ok...it wasn't
but you call the entire Bradley Program a renegade program and call for Les to retire???
that seems a little too extreme for me

there are otehr programs *cough* uofi *cough* that has done SOOOO many worse things (see Luther Head)
and Bruce Weber was barely slapped on the wrist.

No- incorrect.
The violations by TW and TCS were minor (speeding and underaged drinking). They received citations, and were punished accordingly by Jim Les by action he took before the next game. TW was benched to start the game (he was a starter for every other game), and TCS was held out of the game completely. This satisfied the disciplinary policy that players with no prior disciplinary issues are not punished as severaly as repeat offenders.

If a coach and an athletic program have a defined policy for discipline and handing out punishments, like Bradley's basketball program did, and that policy was followed perfectly by Jim Les, as it was, then who are you or I to say that it wasn't handled correctly?

If you don't like the policy, then change it. But it was not appropriate to use the incident, on the tail of the Dalquist incident, to "make an example" of the 2 players, which is clearly what was done.

By the way, you may believe the punishments that JL had already handed down to TW and TCS were too light, but they were still much more than a couple ISU players got who had real DUIs, and was harsher than an Illinois player got who almost killed a teammate and was driving intoxicated with a BAL several times the limit.

The incidents you note were handled appropriately and well by Bradley. Restitution was made immediately, and Brown was booted. Bradley did not knowingly break any rules or contribute to these violations by negligence or failing to punish athletes..
These did not involve anyone being arrested, and the Star incident was called a clerical mistake by the NCAA.
Many other programs have had DUIs and various other criminal issues with players who's punishments were lighter than the 2 BU athletes.

From what I have been told, there was no official policy in force at the time of these incidents that required that Pres. Glasser be notified. So it's understandable, with Pres. Glasser's interest in Public Relations, that she would be upset to find out like she did, but nobody in the Athletic Dept. did anything wrong here. I understand that the official policy has now been changed, but at the time, they did nothing wrong.

ER3, I usually agree with the majority of your posts.. However, I disagree with portions of this post. A national reporter labled us a a "renegade program". I believe this is an innaccurate and excesive label. Why? A true renegade program would have swept a lot of this under the rug. In our case, suspensions were handed out to the players and the issues were confronted.. Last year's issues are social issues that can and do happen at any school. If Whelliston wants to travel the country to look for renegade programs, I have a couple of suggestions for his itinerary.

Well put.....I don't condone anything negative being cast towards Mr. Whellistone but to completely disregard or not address what he said is shortsighted IMO.

I would ask just what makes a program recieve the label of "renagade" and what dertermines why or when a coach should be canned. If what happened at BU gets you that label there are ALOT of renegade programs out there and ALOT of coaches need fired.

I think he didn't do his homework and using the word or label "renegade" was done irresponsibly.
