  • Stephen Curry

Rather than continue an old thread.....I thought I'd start a new one.
this kid is awesome.....no telling what he'll average this season.

In Davidson's first exhibition game, Curry was 15-19 from the floor,
6-9 from 3-pt, and 5-5 from the FT line.

he had 41 points, and just for good measure, he also had 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and a steal.
If he keeps this up, I might just have a few pick-ems for the guy's scoring totals...

The View from Press Row: Practice? You're talking about Practice? Davidson’s Stephen Curry scored a game-high 41 points to lead the Davidson men’...

Here's our old thread on Curry

Davidson's team should be severely "scoring challenged" this year and will need Curry to lead the nation in scoring for the team to repeat last year's success. They are in a weak conference and are projected to win it regardless.

I predict Curry will average 32 ppg this year; if I were a coach I would play "box and one" on Curry and force the other four players to beat me.

You guys defenses won't figure him out? or just double team him?

I'm concerned for Davidson's other 4 guys on the court.

Last year they were all Curry all day...how is their depth? do they have a #2 scorer who can carry them if Curry is off or if the defense is really stingy?

I wouldn't call the SoCon a weak conference. They've had some great history and have some good talent. Davidson, Chattanooga, Appalachain State, and College of Charleston are always tough.

ESPN even had CofC (50) and Chattanooga (48 ) rated in the top 50 programs since 1985.

How do you evaluate the 50 best programs in the modern era of college hoops (since the 1984-85 season, when the NCAA tourney expanded to 64 teams)? That's the issue ESPN's researchers tackled with the Prestige Rankings. Here are programs Nos. 41-50.

          Curry

The thing with Curry that will amaze you is that the more pressure he is put under the more amazing he becomes. He should be consider the front runner for player of the year, he won't be, but he should. Sorry for my Curry crush. I am all Bradley all the time, but I do appreciate talent on the court and he is shoulders above everyone else. He proved in the tournament last year, he will do the same this year. I see Davidson being pretty good, due to his ability to spread the court and draw the attention. A so-so line up will be a pretty good lineup with him in the game. There are a handfull of websites where you can watch old NCAA tournament games. I watch one where he left the game to rest, Davidson lost there 15 point lead, he came back in, boom 15 point lead again. Maybe a Davidson/Bradley matchup in the Bracketbuster could be a possibillity this year.

Also, go Braves....I think this year will be one hell of a good ride. Once they mesh. It Starts in 6 hours and 50 minutes.

Stephen Curry went for 33 points and 9 assists in Davidson's win 99-64 win over James Madison. Davidson is 2-0, and Curry is averaging 31 ppg and 9.5 assists per game. Who said he couldn't play point guard?

We'll see how good Davidson really is as their next games are against Oklahoma (NIT), Winthrop, North Carolina State, West Virginia, Chattanooga (SoCon), Purdue, Charleston (SoCon) , Samford (SoCon), and Duke. Plus, if they beat Oklahoma, they could play another couple games in the NIT against top teams like Arizona or Purdue (again).

The Baby-Faced Bomber, as I like to call him, went off again last night, going for 44 (44!) against Oklahoma. Only problem was Blake Griffin pulled a Michael Beasley and went for 25 points and 21 rebounds as the Sooners won 82-78. I'm pretty mad I forgot to set my DVR for this game.

Curry might be my favorite college basketball player to watch in the last 10 years. Just a great shooter and you can tell he really loves playing the game at this level. He's averaging 35.3 ppg and is shooting 51.5 percent from the floor (43.3 percent on 3s).

SI and KC Star columnist Joe Posnanski -- probably the best sports writer in the country -- says he'd vote Curry for Sportsman of the Year.

Three horrible foul calls in the first half forced Curry to sit out the final 7 minutes of the 1st half with a mere 17 pts.....not to take away from OU playing a great game...but...

The 3rd call, a ridiculous charging call, was completely fabricated and gave cause to wonder if the refs might just be helping the home team???

Curry came back to score 27 in the 2nd half.

T I agree the refs really acted like homers. Davidson was having a bit of a run when they called that terrible foul on him. Then there were a few other non calls going for Oklahoma during the game. The real question is why was Davidson on the road for this tournament. There are other teams at home who should have been seeded lower then them.

Curry reminds me SO much of Hersey Hawkins. I'm fortunate enough to be able to watch (in person) Curry play at least once this year. It should be a real treat

I know this is also in another post, but this thread on Stephen Curry needs an update!
Curry set a career scoring record...but not a good one...

He scored ZERO points in last night's game. His team, Davidson, easily beat Loyola MS 78-48, but Curry was 0-3 from the field and scored zero.

From the outset, Loyola had dedicated their two best defenders to hound Curry every second of the game, so Curry simply stood in a corner and let the rest of his teammates go 4 on 3 against Loyola.

I recall Larry Bird doing something similar against a team that tried the same defensive ploy a few years back!

The odd defensive scheme that the Loyola coach continued to use even when he was behind by 34, brought plenty of criticism, even from the Davidson coach who responded by keeping his superstar in the game right to the end even though it had long since been decided. It also meant that Loyola's top scorer also went scoreless as he spent the whole evening standing in the corner with Curry.
I hope he had time to ask for his autograph!

That's hilarious. When I first heard he didn't score, I thought he just had a really bad game. Smart move by a great player.

That answers my question about Davidson's "others."
but is that going to work against better teams?

It just shows you why he should be player of the year. Team comes first attitude and no EGO!

Who was the Loyola coach? Great strategy? I would have understood a box on one or double up anytime he touched the ball but 2 players at all times????? It may have worked in HS ball and that would be questionable.
