  • Dwight Buycks

Former BU commit Dwight Buycks, as expected, signed his LOI for Marquette. His teammate Dwight Hardy also signed to go to a Big East school, St. Johns.--

Buycks is averaging 13 ppg, and 4 rebs, 4 asst so far.

Other players on Buycks' Indian Hills juco team are...

Laron Dendry (previous Clemson commit) averaging 14 ppg -- I recall reading that at one time Bradley had looked at Dendy, but now even Kentucky is looking at him, and Arkansas has offered.
    He also has a 71% FG%

    Dwight Hardy averaging 9.3 ppg

Ex-WIU player Delvon Johnson, who left when Coach Thomas was fired is averaging 3 ppg
James Washington is the other ex-WIU player who left WIU at the same time, he's averaging 4.5 ppg

    Leon Powell 13 ppg/61% FG%

ex-SLU Billiken Marcus Relphorde 7.5 ppg

Indian Hill just got done drubbing John Wood 83-50 and makes Indian Hills 4-1 with just the one pt loss to Chipola being their only loss. Buycks had 16, Powell had 17, Dendy did not play.

      Powell

Any word on where Powell is looking to go? He was a pretty highly ranked recruit we were after at one time. I doubt he would fit with our future needs, but I am curious if he is going to play at a big time school.

There just isn't the kind of reporting on juco kids that there is on many, many recruiting sites for the high school kids.
I really doubt strongly that BU still has interest with all the fine big men we have coming in, but Powell was being recruited by BU when he was in high school.

There was even a hint of a report that Bradley actually had the kid and was going to land him after some summer course work in 2007 (recall the "mystery recruit??).

The very best juco recruiting site is JucoJunction, and here's what they say....

They claim Powell still has interest from Bradley and an offer from BU, with interest also from Illinois, Saint Louis, and Missouri State....but they really haven't updated their database page for Powell in over a year.

By the way...JucoJunction's 2008-2009 Top 200 Junior College Player Rankings are due out today, so I will check on it and see where Powell might rank.
I strongly suspect he, as well as both Buycks and Hardy will all be Top 20 or so...

news on these two Indian Hills kids...

Johnson, who played a year at WIU has signed with Arkansas.
Relphorde was said to be leaning towards signing with Arkansas also, but news this morning is that he he will sign with Colorado and Jeff Bzdelik.

He becomes the 7th Indian Hills CC player to go D-I...
Dwight Buycks (Marquette), Dwight Hardy (St. John's), James Washington (Middle Tennessee), Leon Powell (SEMO), LaRon Dendy (Iowa State), Delvon Johnson (Arkansas), and Marcus Relphorde (Colorado).
Two more IHCC kids, Damian Windham & Brad Burgus, may also land at D-I.

Here is a nice article about for BU commit Dwight Buycks. Buycks is from the Milwaukee area and was recruited by Bradley out of Bay View High School in 2007. He visited Bradley and liked what he saw. He committed to BU, but then did not qualify. He went to Indian Hills junior college, and became an All-American both his freshman and sophomore seasons. He got offers from a few of the big boys, and committed to Marquette of the Big East. Now he is being counted on to help replace a lot of the scoring Marquette lost from last season, and he might even be needed to play some point guard. Forgive the obligatory pun on his name.
            The buck stops with Buycks

Dwight Buycks missed a passing score on his ACT by a few points which cost BU an outstanding player back in 2007...
He ended up never playing for Bradley but his college career included two fine years at Marquette, two NCAA bids & a Sweet Sixteen appearance.
I am convinced he would have helped greatly in the 2008-2012 era...
He just signed with the Pistons for his 3rd season in the NBA
