I don't know all the facts, but I believe it's because the transcripts have to be sent directly from his high school to the NCAA clearinghouse, and can't be submitted by the recruit himself. And the NCAA won't send for them until the kid submits his first test scores. So I think this is routine.

Da Coach, you always have the right answers. That make a lot of sense to me.

The NCAA requires BOTH the kid's transcripts, and also must see the diploma, as every country has different requirements, and the NCAA must have all the facts.
Although it seems reasonable that the schools in France and Belgium would and should comply, I have heard that at times, they simply DON'T, and it is hard to get them to move faster than THEY want to move.

By the way....the NCAA has a LONG, LONG list of rules and requirements for kids who come from foreign countries, and the guidelines even vary depending on where the kid comes form.
Page Not Found (404): It looks like you're lost... The page you are looking for no longer exists.

            (Belgium is on Pg. 20
            France is on Pg. 50)

however, there are no special cautions and warnings about kids from these nations.
There are such "red flags" for kids from some certain nations due to fraud and improper actions within their educational systems.

Note the special warning about kids coming from Nigeria.
            "Nigeria
NOTICE: A serious problem of falsification and alteration of records exists in Nigeria. Identification of such forgery is difficult and
can be discovered only by using great caution in records evaluation. To obtain verification of secondary education, all documents sent
directly to the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse will be forwarded to an outside verification office. Please note that it may take
several months to receive a reply from the verification office. If the problem involves university transcripts or records from teacher
training colleges, polytechnics, or other schools or institutions, a letter with photocopies of all documents in question should be sent
to the registrar of the institution concerned for verification. In addition, due to the unique nature of the educational system in Nigeria,
all annual grade reports/transcripts from year nine and up should be obtained and forwarded to the clearinghouse along with those
documents specifically listed below. These documents may be reviewed with the documents in Item No. 2 below in cases in which core
            has not been completed."

and a simlar warning about Cameroon:
            "Cameroon

This comment from Wilkins Sr. has me concerned a bit...

              Fron the PJStar:

The elder Wilkins said the NCAA clearinghouse was awaiting his son's high school transcript, which he said was being sent from Belgium.

"I've gotta get him going," Jeff Wilkins said. "He's not in basketball shape because he doesn't play enough. But he's been playing once a week, running at the track and lifting weights."

My question is this. A 19 year old kid, who isn't currently in school, that will be playing D1 basketball hopefully in a matter of weeks, is only playing ONCE a week?

If it were me I would be training like I was preparing to storm the beaches at Normandy! Plus playing as much hoops as humanly possible.

I don't mean to overreact, as I am looking forward to having Wilkins in the mix. This just seemed a little strange

This is an unfortunate result of NCAA rules.
From an earlier Pjstar article, JW's dad lives in Gary, IN and can only make it into "safer" Chicago gym's once a week. I'd rather JW make it to BU alive than risk it all wandering around Gary.

I'm sure Star Transport would love to hire his dad, but then the NCAA's would be all over us...

I'm sure he's shooting or whatever on his own everyday, but he's probably only able to play actual games once a week. I remember in a previous article, it was saying that his dad had to drive him to Chicago for pick-up games.

Otherwise, during the week, who is he supposed to play with? School is in session, and after class, I'm sure the good high school players are practicing with their own teams.

If all goes well, and JW is enrolled next month, he will be ready and contribute more immediately than any of the new players Bradley has.

How would he compare with Taylor Brown? I've been impressed with Brown's ability to go inside-outside, his ability to rebound, and ability to shoot the 3. I see him contributing off the bench all year. Having never seen Wilkins play, is he at or above that level already? Who would stand to lose the most minutes should he be able to play on December 22?

Are you making this statement based on things you have heard or have you actually seen him play in person?

Based on the quote from his father, It sounds like he may have problems getting up and down the floor right now. My guess is it will take him a little while to get in game shape and adjust to D1 level basketball.

Brown is more of a 4 type, and you won't see him putting the ball on the floor more than a one or two dribble move, similar to Theron Wilson. I haven't seen JW either, but from everything I have heard, he has excellent floor skills, and can dribble, pass, and drive well. He might play some 4, but he more suited as a true 3. How he will fit in is anyone's guess. I think he would play minutes that are now going to Eddren, Dodie, or Chris Roberts.

What Da Coach is saying is that even though Wilkins Sr. feels Jr. needs more conditioning right now, if and when he suits up for BU, he'll be ready to contribute right away.

What we can do right now is concentrate on the current roster and get excited for the start of the season! GO BU!!

So discussing the Wilkins situation is nothing we should be concerned with?
