POB's Problem

Guys, guys, guys. Why can't we all just get along? This is why we can't have nice things...
As for the reasoning brought up in the original post, I think Doc Rivers' quote here speaks for itself. Now, I'm not saying POB's lazy, but it sounds like his coach certainly thinks he hasn't tapped his potential.
Originally posted by bu 1995 View PostFor those questioning why POB has been inactive, Rivers made clear yesterday the reason, with the statement that POB has to "keep working": ...
???He just has to keep working,??? Rivers said. ???Sure there??™s a message in this, but it??™s not being sent by me. He??™ll have to play at our intensity and speed if he wants to play. It??™s a process for him to get there. He??™s a talented, skilled kid who can get more out of himself.??? . . .

Not a shot, just an opinion. There is no team in the the MVC that can match up to us the whole game, if our bigs come to play! BU will win the the MVC this year!

Good comments, all, but I still don't see any evidence that says O'Bryant has a strong work ethic. I continue to wish the kid well -- I would love to see him become a great player -- but things point in the other direction.
Listen, if you've got a 7-foot, athletic kid who works hard, why would you deactivate him from games this early in the season? Looks like a red flag to me. I watched POB play a lot and some nights the energy and enthusiasm were there and some times it wasn't; would anyone disagree with that?
Some are saying he may lack the "passion" for playing the game. I know people like this in the working world, as we all do, people who aren't passionate about their jobs. They do whatever it takes to get by but don't accomplish near what they could (or should). That, to me, translates to work ethic, or a lack thereof.
(Note: you are considered an alum of a school if you attended, don't need to graduate. Check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alumni.)

You might deactivate a player for the same reason a college redshirts a player. They might need to work on a skill and game-prepping takes away from that practive time. It may not be a lack of working hard, just wanting to focus that hard work on something other than game prepping.
I'm on the other side. Prove to me POB is not working hard. POB is not that outwardly "high motor" i.e. bouncing on the sidelines and, yes, due to his body's huge need for oxygen he breathes with his mouth wide open in the first minute of a game. Did the coaching staff ask him to show up for extra practice and he missed it? Is he refusing to do as many reps as requested?

alumnus, alumni ... use when referring to a man (alumni in the plural) who has attended a school.
So POB is an alum, but not a graduate. Same with Danny Granger, TCS, Rashad Austin, etc.

In the NBA you need to want it real bad! It is the most competitive sport league in all the pro sports, period. If you do not really have that fire burning inside you there's someone else as athletic and physically capable who will take your spot. There's no room in the NBA for you to not have it as your number one priority, unless your name is Shaq, and even then he played with a lot of heart."Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."
??” Thomas Jefferson

I hope POB does well as much as the next guy but his draft was a big surprise to most of us. He was draftee because of two big games against Pitt and KU...it wasn't because of what he did during the season because he was inconsistent kind of like how it is for him in the pros...maybe he will develop. I hope so but it doesn't seem likely.
there are worse things than a journeyman backup big man though
