  • POB's Problem

It's pretty simple isn't it? The kid hasn't worked hard enough to justify getting on the court, either in Boston or Golden State. I am sure he is a good guy but the words that have been thrown around about him for a while are basketball synonyms for "lazy". He has consistently been out of his shape in his short career and I personally haven't read any evidence that his mindset has changed as it needs to in order for him to get on the court.

He needs to pull his head out of the sand and bust his butt, not to depend upon getting by just because he is 7 feet tall and is blessed with good athletic ability. There isn't a coach alive who wouldn't like to play a 7-footer who can block shots and has nice touch around the basket.

If Patrick had the on court and practice work ethic of Hersey Hawkins or Anthony Parker (or Danny Granger, for that matter), we would not be having this conversation because he would be getting big minutes.

This isn't a rip on Pat, but I am not sure his 'passion' has ever been basketball. He's a very intelligent kid who has a lot of interests outside the game of basketball. Sure, he's got all the tools in the world, but the truly great ones have a passion and desire that drives them. If Pat doesn't have that, I don't think it's a knock. He's taking his God-given gifts and making a fine living. If he doesn't make an NBA All-Star Game or even a starting lineup, I still think he can sleep at night. I'd love him to be a great pro, but it doesn't really bother me if he isn't. He was, and always will be, a great Brave.
    Onward and Upward!

Well said BB! Let's stop ripping the kid and just support what he is -- a great kid, a pretty good b-ball player, and Bradley Alum that brings NOTHING but credit and respect to the university. POB is a class act!

Have you even seen POB practice? Play?

Did you ever see Hawk, AP, or Granger practice or play?

This is more a case of Hawk, AP, and Granger being great athletes and ballplayers than it is about POB as a "lazy" practice player. POB is what he is -- an 7-footer with average to above average basketball skills. It's the 7-foot part that keeps him in the NBA... His b-ball skills never were, and never will be, in the same class as Hawk or AP (or the traitor, for that matter).

Again well said BB... I still think that the Celtics are looking at POB as a project so he still has some time to turn things around. Being a 7 footer
withs some mobility will do that for a person in the NBA.

POB does not seem to have the outward demeanor to ever look like he is working hard. His play is, at times, quite exciting, but his face never looks it.
I wonder if he physically cannot recover as well as the average NBA'er. IS it possible he is always trying, but cannot physically play more than 5 high-level days in a month?
Then, he occasionally shows all-star type flashes of brilliance, adn the bar gets set too high, and everyone is against him when he does not play at an all-star level.
There's going to be a ton of postings here, this year against DC for the same season. Heemskirk would get praised for actually posting the numbers that DC did vs Lewis, but it will never seems enough to the DC haters, because DC adds near NBA type athleticism..

I agreed with both you and BB. Remember the guy only played two years in college. Most people would kill to be seating where he is and being paid what he is. I would never call anyone lazy, if I have not first hand knowledge of that being true or the case. Being 7' does not make you a NBA Starr and mean that basketball is all you care or live for. Millions of people go to jobs each day that they are very well suited for but don't excel to the highest level of the job, for what ever reasons. So leave it as it is, PB is doing just fine and is a lot better off money wise than most of us will ever be and he is only 22 years old.
There is no team in the the MVC that can match up to us the whole game, if our bigs come to play! BU will win the the MVC this year!

ph, I don't remember reading on any post that people were against POB or hated DC. They are just giving their opinions. Out of Bounce, I was wondering how any posts it would take before how rich POB is would come up. IMO, he isn't going to mature as an NBA player by going on and off the roster of an NBA team. He could have matured more by playing 2 more years at BU.

For instance. the first post of the "Disgusted" theread:
We had no inside game to speak of. I am unsure if this is how our offense is drawn up, but I heard JL yelling for DC to post up, and DC looked lost and parked himself at the three point line. We have some height, we just need to find a way to utilize it.
There were many such posts unhappy with DC's overall "production."

Haven't seen the h word yet. Disappointed? Yes. Granted, there are posters on this board who act like experts when it comes to basketball and like to evaluate the team.

OK, where is Da Coach and Amckillp on this issue? I got smashed by both of them last week when I said virtually the same thing as Missouri Brave. Amckillip even got very personal. Nice post Missouri Brave. I agree. Good luck when you get attacked... but if you defend yourself the thread will probably be removed like it was when I tried to defend myself.

I only got personal when you took a shot at DC for his opinion. Missouri hasn't attacked anyone or likened them to any sort of unsavory character, so he's ok in my book.

Amckillip, why didn't you get personal when DC took a shot at me for my opinion? (Don't even argue DC did not take a shot at me because it was all over the tone of his response). I know the answer to that question... DC is the "man" on this board and I'm just another poster (that's one reason Rodney Dangerfield is my avatar). That's a fine way to treat people for you and probably the best way to run your life because in today's world sucking up to people in power will take you a long way; while treating those not in power poorly really doesn't matter. You should go far in the corporate world.
