Jeremy Crouch had his best game yet as a pro...
He hit for 11 pts and 4 rebs to help his team, the New Yorker Phantoms to a 73-56 win over Walter Tigers Tubingen.
The Phantoms are now 5-3 to move into a tie for 5th place in the 18 team Bundesliga....they are 1 game out of 3rd and 2 games out of 1st.
Will Franklin is 4th in the league in steals at 1.9 spg, and 8th in assists at 3.9 apg.

Just to show how fast guys can change teams in Europe...

The top scorer in the Bundesliga, the German league will Franklin & Jeremy Crouch play in, is Marcus Slaughter, a very good player from San Diego State. He's also 2nd in rebounding, and blocks, and 3rd in steals.

Slaughter was averaging 18.8 ppg AND 10 rebounds per game, over the first 11 games but his team, Bremerhaven, was going absolutely nowhere at 1-10!
Then he defied one of his coach's orders about his diet (the report was that he ate a meal of sausage & fries an hour before an important game) and got told he'd be suspended so he simply walked out causing his team to nullify the contract he was working under.

Immediately, Slaughter got lots of other offers and accepted one from LaHavre in the same top French Pro A league Cellus is playing in.

The top Austrian pro league, A Bundesliga has two ex-Valley names among the TOP 3 scorers in the league.

Deven Mitchell (Missouri State) leads the league with 23.1 ppg
Jeremy Fears (Bradley) is 3rd at 21.3 ppg.

In the German Pro A League, Will Franklin is 6th in assists with 4.2 apg, and 7th in steals with 1.7 spg.
He is also averaging 13.2 ppg, ranking him in the top 15.

In Lithuania, JJ Tauai is averaging 7.7 ppg, 5.1 rpg.

            Not much since this,

and here is a release from yesterday........
            "Dec. 15, 2008.
Forward Marcellus Sommerville remains out of action with a knee injury. ..."

In the Euro leagues, the instant a guy is injured and unable to play, the teams often replace him and even go so far as remove his stats from the team's website, which they have done with Cellus.

Thanks. That's pretty cutthroat, especially considering how well he's been playing. I hope 'Cellus heals-up and lands somewhere.

I meant Cellus is replaced on the roster, but still may be back with the team...I have no word on that....
I didn't mean his contract has been cut, although some Euro contracts have no provisions for the player to continue to be paid if injured.
One of the early deals Zach Andrews had in Europe was one in which he was cut loose immediately as soon as he was injured.

Just for a little comparison...here are some bigger names........

Patrick Beverley...went to Europe after getting booted from Arkansas.
Was said to have NBA-caliber talent....
He is playing in Ukraine for a 2nd tier team, Dnipro Dnepropetrovsk.
The Top league in Ukraine is called SuperLeague, and Dnipro is presently 11-9 in the 2nd tier league, UBL.
Beverley is averaging 15. 6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 3.8 apg in 34.6 mpg over 17 games.

Super high schooler Brandon Jennings who passed on going to college and went straight to the Italian top pro league, is playing with LOTTOMATICA VIRTUS ROMA (Danny Ferry's old Italian team). He is averaging 8.4 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 1.3 apg, and is playing 17.6 mpg as a sub on a team that's in 9th place at 5-5 in a 16 team league.
He is their 4th best scorer....not exactly the kind of production that'll wow the NBA scouts!

Khalid El-Amin, starred at UConn and led them to a national Championship, plays with AZOVMASH MARIUPOL in Ukraine's SuperLeague and averages 13.9 ppg5.6 apg.

Ex-Illini Kiwane Garris is playing for PREMIATA MONTEGRANARO in the top Italian pro league, and averaging 15.1 ppg

Drake Diener plays for Air Avellino in the top Italian league averaging 8.8 ppg.

Ramar Smith from Tennessee, booted last year due to drug issues, now plays in Poland for AZS Koszalin, averaging 2.7 ppg.
