HoopsIL.com has their Preseason awards, part I--

Top Shooter- this one I am a little puzzled by. They pick a kid who has never taken a shot yet for ISU, Chamberlain Oguchi.
His stats his junior year at Oregon were not pretty--
52 for 166 (.313) overall, and 29-112 (.259) from three. Those numbers are absolutely horrible for a "shooting guard", but his Pac-10 Conference stats were even worse! In conference he shot 25-83 (.301) overall, and 13-57 (.228 ) from three.

Top defender went to Dodie Dunson, who also has never played yet.--
Top Defender: Dodie Dunson’s combination of strength, quickness, speed, and IQ help him to lock down defenders. When at Iowa State, Dunson was often assigned to the opponents best defender and did a very good job holding Big XII stars under their averages. He should be even better in the Valley.

I have no idea where they come up with this stuff. I am as excited as any Saluki fan for this years recruiting class but to have someone listed as top playmaker (Dillard) who has never played a minute of DI hoops seems crazy. If he is the top playmaker in Illinois. SIU will be a lot better than anyone is anticipating.

Also Mullins is the best defender in the state.

Saluki762-- I haven't heard anything lately... What's the status of Mullins' injury? Is he able to practice or play?

Am am unfortunately not in the Carbondale area. I can only go by what salukitalk says. Tornado seems to have that covered.

Well that's good for Mullins. As a Bradley fan, I have to both hate and respect the guy.

Hate to see any athlete losing time to injury, so hope he can put that all behind him.

However there were several comments about how he simply couldn't hit a shot, and in one 3-pt contest with nobody guarding him, he hit only 3 of 15 attempts.
True but Mullins has never really been much of a 3pt shooter...

If he's shooting a lot of them then they're in more trouble than they thought

His numbers in the MVC conference games were actually pretty impressive...

36-75, 48.0%, a FULL 15% percentage points better than anyone else on the Saluki team!

The next closest guy was Clemmons (13-40, 32.5%)!!
Yeah...but do you really expect that to continue?

I will go out on a limb and say it shouldn't have to. We should actually have some people who can shoot the ball this year.

Honestly I hope so....the conference isn't going to be helped if SIU is bad...plus it makes me feel much better when you're good when we beat you
