New Bradley player- Freshman Ned Goertzen

Henderson, NE (Heartland Community H.S.)

17.5 points, 5.8 rebounds (HS Senior)

Second-team All-Nebraska boys basketball Class C-2 (4th largest of the 6 classes)

Was also the leading receiver on his HS football team last year.

Bradley has one additional new player on their roster. At tonight's Bradley Athletic Benefit at the Itoo Hall, Coach Jim Les introduced a freshman walkon named Ned Goertzen. Ned now is listed on the Bradley roster at BUBraves.com--

Ned Goertzen is a 6'1" , 185 pound guard from Henderson, Nebraska, Heartlan Community High School. Coach Les said Ned approached him and asked for a tryout, and made the team as a walkon. He is expected to help in practices. Welcome to the team, Ned!

I just returned from the Itoo Hall and will be posting more topics about this year's men's and women's teams, and we'll have a lot of pictures and video clips loaded later tonight and tomorrow.

Ned was 2nd team Class C2 (small schools) All State in Nebraska last year.

I just clicked on the new Freshmen on the roster. Such bright, enthusiastic faces. Hope they all have a wonderful experience here. That's really what it's all about.

Not to bring up old arguments, but the addition of Goertzen (a welcome addition) is something the old regime would have never done. There were several quality players on campus who would have gladly taken on the roles the guys like Sunley, Mroz, Lavin, Kevin Jones, Montana Heirman, Lavin, Phillips, Sweatman, and now Robertson and Goertzen are taking on. Are they going to make a noticeable difference on the court? Probably not. But they do serve several purposes that the old regime never seemed to grasp. You can probably count on one hand the number of walk-on's the old regime had. The only time I can recall someone getting a roster spot because of tryout was when they were down to about 8 guys who were actually able to practice. Regardless, it's a moot point nowadays, but I am glad to see us continuing to effectively make use of the walk-on player.

Sorry BradleyBrave. I don't want to see this thread go in the toilet either.... but I just wanted to comment on what you are saying.

The old regime in your words had few walk-ons.

And in my words, under the old regime - Bradley had very little depth. It seemed like we had 4-5 players... maybe a 6th (in a great year)... and oh goodness-gracious, look out if 7th hits the floor, we are in for some tuff stretches.

Translation to today.... I believe Coach Les is doing a GREAT job. (I am not saying you never said so or you disagree... just trying to expand... in my words, tho )

just saying that being a walk-on plays into the American Dream. Anyone can be a Brave. Anyone can be president, etc. The part about anyone can own a home or anyone can do better than their parents has been wiped out. What is left?
