I ate too much Monicals pizza in the 80's to even consider it now. Monday night was all you can eat for $4.

A couple years ago I went around with a friend each week and tried a different local non-franchise pizza joint in the Peoria area. It was great to try all the different pizzas and to experience the character that each one possessed.

I dont know how or why they sell Davis Brothers pizza but they do. My Uncle told me thats where he goes to get the pizza's for my wife. He thinks they are closer to what we ate at the old place as kids..............maybe someone knows the story?

I believe the guy who owns Larry's is the family member who bought the Davis Bros. Pizza business, then eventually sold it back to the previous owner.

              You are correct, DC!

I don't know all the details, but I believe there was a threat of a lawsuit over the contents of the sauce when the businesses were owned by the same person. I think that's what resulted in the original DB franchise being sold back to the previous owner.

By the way, DB Pizza in EP is just down the hill from my house, and I go there frequently for carry-out!

Talk about the stupid things you remember. As a kid I remember some big scare about Davis Brothers putting ALPO in their pizza................whatever it is I like it. Anyone else remember that?

Yes, I have actually known the older Mr. Davis for a long time who was one of the original Davis Brothers. He was the original owner and sold it to another family member. Their agreement included a contract that said he wouldn't change the recipe. From what I have been told, he did change things, business fell off, and lawsuits were threatened, and the older Davis took the business back. Somebody else now runs the business, as Mr. Davis is quite elderly and spends a lot of time outside the Peoria area. But he still checks to be sure they make the pizzas the original way.

I do not remember anything about Alpo.

I get pizza from Agatucci"s a lot and I believe coach Les does also; Olivers Pub in Peoria Heights has great pizza and is as good if not better then the old Davis Bros. pizza in E.Peoria.

If I recall....the dog food cans came from the person living above the bar who had a dog and used the DB dumpster for their garbage!

also wondering if anyone has eaten at Malnati's....they had one in the Sheridan Plaza
for a while but I believe it's no longer in Peoria.

ps-- I also amended the title of the thread since we're talking more about pizza than basketball
Agatucci's is my favorite pizza place in Peoria... I liked the Malnati's in Sheridan Village very much. ---I am pretty certain that Malnati's left Peoria long time ago...
