  • Another preview from a different perspective

An interesting look at the upcoming season from a fantasy basketball perspective.

    Onward and Upward!

Here is another preview of the MVC, though I find it interesting that the writer admits he isn't too familiar with any MVC team.--
I have to admit I saw Drake coming. Back in November, Drake made their return trip of the Bracket Buster selection from Des Moines to Milwaukee, and I happened to be in attendance along with both T…

Note the mention of TW's underage drinking issue last year while none of king o's problems with the law seem to have came across his mind...its not even like TW can get an underage drinking ticket this year so why would people need to "watch out" for that???? It's not even JUST the PJS it's EVERYONE who HAS to mention the bad stuff with the Braves...no matter what...I don't get it!! Why us and no one else???

I think it is safe to assume he meant the 05-06 season (although he didn't do a very good job of displaying that) when Champ led the Ducks in made 3 pointers with 68

What happened to Oguchi between 2005-06 and 2006-07?
          He was 68-189 (.360) from three as a sophomore in 2005-06, 98-252 (.389) overall for 9.6 ppg.
And he dropped to a terrible 25-112 (.259) from three as a junior in 2006-07. Overall, he was 52-166 (.313) for the season and averaged only 4.8 ppg.
His minutes decreased from 19.4 mpg (05-06) to 15.9 mpg (06-07), but that's just 3.5 mpg and doesn't explain the massive dropoff in shooting percentages.

Also, I note that for a kid who is always described as such an athletic player, he averaged only 1.7 rebounds per game (1.4 rpg in conference) in 2006-07, his junior year at Oregon. That's bad!

Yeah, he's not athletic at all.

Hey, I wasn't saying he isn't athletic. My source, who is an ISU insider and a very objective fan, assures me Oguchi will be the most athletic player in the MVC when he steps on the court this year for ISU. He has an NBA-type body, and if he wanted to concentrate on rebounding, he should be able to average 6-7 rpg with no problem.
My question is why he had only 1.7 rpg his last year at Oregon? That's almost too low to believe.

From what I hear, some of the answer is he got some bad advice and thought his best chance to make it to the NBA was to stand outside the 3-point line and take threes. That hurt his scoring, rebounding, and defense and got him into the coach's doghouse and eventually lead to him leaving Oregon.

Incidentally, fans will see that Oguchi is a similar player to Osiris Eldridge, only mayby even a little more athletic.
Yet Osiris averaged 5.7 rebounds per game last year as a sophomore, and is ISU's leading returning rebounder.
Hard to figure how Oguchi couldn't get more than 1.7 rpg as a junior.

Hey guys. This is guy who wrote the Missouri Valley preview on Northwestern Wins. I fixed up most of the errors that you guys mentioned. I have to admit I don't get to see as much MVC basketball as I'd like as a student who just loves college basketball here in Big Ten country. But man you guys were nitpicking on me

I'll get to see Bradley this season up here in Milwaukee. Best of luck this season.

Welcome to the board and dont worry about the nitpicking the official Bradley website isnt as detailed as this site so writing a perfect preview for this audience is very hard. Thanks for covering The Valley.
                      Can we start winning soon?

Nice job trying to cover the MVC. For a fan who doesn't see the teams much, you actually did a better job that most of the preseason magazines have done.
