I've never played organized sports in school. But to me, there should only be two rules for team captains:

    1.) No freshmen

2.) Best man for the job regardless of on-the-court performance

Now, I'm not saying Warren isn't captain material. I really don't know. I'm just saying the fact that Warren has done more @ Bradley than Maniscalco doesn't automatically make him a leader. What's he like in the locker room? Has he taken any of the freshmen under his wing yet? Maybe he doesn't like to do that stuff. Nothing wrong with that.

      That's Great!

On a somewhat related note, I think it would be a great atmosphere building BU campaign, in the week or a few days prior to every home game, have different billboards / large signs promoting them "crazy fan groups" that stand up, are loud, and wear their BU Red!

Set the game-time tone, "Are you fan enough!"

At least setup several large outdoor picture/video projectors with the fan images so you know what to expect as the fans approach and park at Carver. Play into the theme with several merchandise stands around the concourse. A big overhead "Are You Fan Enough" banner over a display of BU red gear, or signs you are handing out..

SM will almost certainly be a captain, as he should, and it won't have anything to do with how many points he scores. It will have to do with his work ethic, basketball IQ, and his leadership. I really don't think SS will be a captain, I just don't see it. But if he is I honestly think TW will be the odd-man out. He's in his second-year here at BU like Sam, but is no where near the leader. BTW, look at JC's sophmore year production where he came off the bench, then the next years, and I believe JC was indeed a captain that year. You'll often find good captains have little to do with past or even present production, but rather leadership and work ethic, in those two categories Sam surpasses everyone on the team,
Fair enough, but a few points. JC was a junior when he was a captain. Andrew Warren has done nothing to deem himself not worthy of a captain's spot. What else could he have done the past two years he's been here to warrant him that honor???? I would be alright with TW not getting one in exchange for AW, and it is a possibility SS won't be a captain. I'm not the coach so I'm just guessing but still no one will convince me that AW shouldn't be a captain. He's a good student, a good athlete, and so what if he's silent...he takes care of business on the court and that is leadership in itself. If I had to choose an odd man out of the 4 (SS, TW, AW, SM) it would be between TW and SM. AW shouldn't even be in the discussion of if he gets one or not what else does he need to do for us?

Not sure you or me or for that matter anyone else who has not had two major injury's, know or realize the amount of work, pain and work ethic it takes to come back and still play. Ya SM has worked hard for the year he has been at BU but SS has worked as hard if not harder his four years. Now according to reports he has lost another 25 lbs. and is in the best shape sense coming to BU. SS deserves to be Captain and I think JL will make that happen.
There is no team in the the MVC that can match up to us the whole game, if our bigs come to play! BU will win the the MVC this year!

You have made such a strong case here that I am in total agreement with you. I am going back and reedit my post. AW is now one of my choices.
                  Great job!

I understand what you're saying, but on no team I've ever played on has someone gotten captain because they haven't done anything NOT to earn it. When that's how you're choosing captains I'll show you a leaderless team. That being said, I don't think that's the case here at all. I'm just saying AW shouldn't be a shoe-in more than anyone else because he is the leading returning scorer. I think we'll both be correct and both will be captains. But to say naming SM a captain over AW is spitting in AW's face is IMO a wildly outrageous claim.

Ok I understand what you mean by you shouldn't choose captains based on "they haven't done anything to NOT earn it" but I was just using that as a point. If you want to take the other angle of what HAVE they done to earn it, again I say why HASN'T AW warranted ours and Jim Les's utmost respect for what he HAS done for the team on the court. Again I am not knocking on SM saying he hasn't done enough to become a captain, because deep down I believe he has. In a way this is a good thing that we all are having trouble deciding on who should be a captain or not..it says a lot about the type of team and quality of players we have this year. However, I do not believe SM should be a captain because the fact is we do have upperclassman (point 1) who have contributed more (point 2) and have been leaders on the court or vocally (point 3). SM has two of those. He IS captain material, and should be his last 2 years, but I stand by my statement that if I were AW and I did not get a captains spot after the contributions I have made...I would consider it a big disrespect and disgrace. By the way I am picking SM because that would be my choose to not get it, but it could just as easily be TW. Bottom line is SM or no SM as captain...AW should no doubt be a captain for the Bradley Braves his junior and senior years. I hope you realize that I am not angry or fiercely attacking you...I'm just trying to convince as many people as possible including you

Also another point that I just thought of. I have a hunch that coach Les goes for seniority more than other things. My reason being is that MS was a captain last year....

And yes I do believe that the SM this year is captain material over the MS of last year, so either way we are going to have 3 quality captains and one left out that would've been on a level to be one last year; once again showing how we have a lot of quality players this year.

I thought the players selected captains not Coach Les.

In pro sports, it is more common for the players to pick the team captains. But in college and high school sports, I think it is more common for the coach to decide this.

That may be true, but Cellus certainly wasn't afraid to get in someone's face if it was necessary (remember the incident with he and Jamar Howard?), and while Cellus was quiet off the court, he was always in someone's ear either encouraging them or settling them down. He was a great captain.

Oh, definitely not. I'm not one of those people who gets personally offended when someone disagrees about sports...
