Looks like I missed out on all the fun last night.

But I gotta agree with Chico here. And how dare you Brocks put so much pressure on these guys by reading into a player's comment like you did.

Sorry, I'm not going to apologize for wanting to see wins on the floor instead of hype and hyperbole all the time. I'm all for preseason optimism; that's what the preseason is for. However, I really don't see how I am someone who's 'never happy' just because an incoming transfer says 'everyone can play' and I don't read further into tha. If we're going to be as good as we're supposed to be and want to be, everyone SHOULD be able to play.

BBrave its not always WHAT a person says but moreso HOW a person says it. You are often quite direct and pull no punches. You can come off as a bit "smug" if I can say that without offending you becuase its not intended to. Its just the way you respond in writing.

I had a similar incident with you a long time ago and you admitted to me that you sometimes are very forward and can get a bit "excited" and didn't mean for your response to sound the way I took it to be.

Since then I have learned to take what you say not as harshly as it may sound to me. Your response to Brocks is a perfect example. It SOUNDS "critical" and appears "harsh" but I confident thats NOT your intention.

      JMHO......

If having an opinion makes me a BU hater, I guess I should just cancel my season tickets, my Bids for Braves items, my honorary coach game, my Braves Club membership, my hotel room for Arch Madness, my plane ticket for Gainesville, and every other BU basketball event that I have rearranged my entire winter for.

BTW...I'll take the Hotel room and the honorary coaches game if you do cancel........J/K

People read things differently. I understand where BB comes from on this. I didn't see anything special or anything wrong with DD's words and forgot about them 5 minutes later. Sometimes we try to make something out of nothing and when that happens others who disagree are kind of blasted for it.

I don't excited over every little thing and tend to be overly critical on many things which is why I don't post often or during the off-season because during the season is when all the important stuff is happening and games are played.

I agree. Making "something out of nothing" is not everyones cup of tea but, like I said, we all have different thresholds of what gets us going. I appreciate Brocks enthusiam especially in this down time but I understand why some don't think its any big deal.

And differing views does NOT make anyone more or less a fan.

Again..we ALL want Bradley to succeed.

On the FLIP side I have seen players from various teams over the years call out others (especially newbies) for lack of intensity and an understanding of what it takes to succeed in D1.

I'm sure if DD would have said...."we have a few veterans and a few freshman that need to step it up in practice" that those comments would have been cause for some interesting threads to say the least.

Some aren't fans of calling teammates out in the media but it happens. Sometimes the results are good many times it can lead to further dissention.

Either way I like what DD said....whatever the reason.

Dodie Dunson played D1 basketball his freshman season and I believe I heard he scored over 25 points in a game on the road at Missouri so I think he knows a little about what kind of talent BU may have ; I expect for him and several other players to be major contributors in Bradley having another successful season of basketball, I have heard a lot of good things about some of our new players but until I actually see them in a game I do not comment on what I believe they can or cannot do but D.D. is going to really help our team.

I agree with Dodie. There is talent on this team. I don't think he is overestimating at all. The incoming players bring some much needed athleticism. I agree the players have to show what they can do once the real games start, but good to know they are showing promise. It is also the coach??™s job to ensure they get the most out of the talent. Hopefully, this added athleticism will enable BU to be better on the defensive end. BU really struggled on the defensive end last year.

I don't think this thread would have half the number of views/responses if the weather was not so lousy the last several days.

I have not taken a stance on this thread because it is getting vicious in here!

I can see both sides of the argument and let's face it a few of us got sloshed on the cool aid early on last year and are a bit gun shy to get our feelings hurt again. I'm one to sweat out the bad and fill myself up again but probably not drink as much so as to be able to see who I am taking home.

I believe the O will be fine. Our season will go as our D goes and rebounding.

I sure hope we presuure the ball end line to end line.

That's what you do with a rough hangover after mating with the family room chaise lounge.

Ahhhh..... but the next night..... you'll be right back on the kool-aide hard core. Let me get the first round, or two.

                          LOL!

Ha Brocks, I share your excitement and I am also very optimistic about what this team may/can accomplish this season. I know we are not alone and that includes BB and Lakeveiw. BB and Lakeveiw both are very straight forward, direct and pull no punches when expressing their opinions on any matter. Myself, I prefer someone like that, as to someone who dances around the issues, their opinions and trys to find the political right way to present it. At least you know where stand. They both have given their direct opinions on issues that others and I have presented, so you are not being single out here nor do I think that was the intent here! Nor do I think they meet to detour or to destroy yours or anyone else's excitement or optimism for this years team!. If people don't like the way they voice their opinions, they just need not to read them, as I know they will never sugar coat them enough for some. I know both are loyal, knowledgeable fans and very supportive of BU basketball just like all of us on this site. If not BB is surely spending allot of his time and $ following a program he does not like.
Anyway, thanks for your post on what DD said. I would expect and except nothing less from a player about his team and teammates.
There is no team in the the MVC that can match up to us the whole game, if our bigs come to play! BU will win the the MVC this year!

Been away a couple days . . . didn't think my rather innocuous little post would cause such a conflagration!

Anyway . . . DR must have thought the comment meant something interestint, granting him that he is not in the habit of putting mere surplusage in print. And it's not news to anyone that any player on a D-I roster SHOULD be able to play. That isn't the issue; the issue is whether they CAN. I recall many a BU roster with only 5 or 6 real contributors at this level. If we have 13 such players, that will be a first.

I'm not clearing a spot on my wall for this year's championship banner. Just thought DD's comment was worth noting. It tells me something, coming from him, about this team's potential depth of legit talent.

After reading the long-winded analysis in this thread, I am reminded of the old adage, "often wrong, but never in doubt."

I'm with Brocks, I think DD's comment is a harbinger of the good things that we'll see this year! Go Braves
