[QUOTE=Big Mike;91111]I want to win every year......but that doesn't mean a fan cannot be excited about the upcoming season! [/QUOTE

I know...until Jl can win the conference BU will never measure up to your standards!

So then why this direct shot at BB? I can assure you he is just as excited as anyone about the upcoming season and while you have no idea what his standard of success is, if it were winning the conference once a decade I dont think that would be asking to much.
    Can we start winning soon?

What was the BB shot at DD not knowing what a good guard would look like?

Explain which sentence leads you to that conclusion?

BTW - How would Dodie Dunson know what a 'special' Division I team looks like? He hasn't played on one yet. His Iowa St team was horrible. I would sure hope that this BU squad is better that that Iowas St team he played on. I don't think it's saying much at this point if he 'sees' us being better than that group.

Every season 10 teams and their fans plan on winning the conference....yes I want to win but with the way things play out post-season keeps me from going overboard! I want to see improvement from season to season and keep the player turnover down as low as possible....its hard to improve with major turnover of players every season IMO! I always want top 3...winning the conference takes more than just a good coach with a good team...there is also a lot of luck....(no injuries....other teams failing to win the big games and such)to win the MVC or any conference...is that my only goal to win the conference...NO!

How would you know? Have you played on a 'special D-I team?' How would anyone of us know? I think it's safe to say DD DOES know a thing or two about D-1 Ball, seeing as he has been alot closer to it than anyone of us. I think saying someone can't judge something special because they've never been part of one is ridiculous. How would anyone of us judge anything other than things we've been closely related to. And even then would couldn't judge them at the time, or at least no one should listen to us. I'm not saying DD is 100% correct, I'm saying the logic used to dismiss him is, well, illogical.

Wow. I say that we shouldn't read into Dodie's comments, and say that he's never played on a good DI team (which is a fact), and I get painted as a BU hater that is never happy? Whatever, you have no idea what you're talking about. As someone who's on the board as much as you are Big Mike, I am quite shocked you'd portray me in such a way. Sorry, I'm not going to apologize for wanting to see wins on the floor instead of hype and hyperbole all the time. I'm all for preseason optimism; that's what the preseason is for. However, I really don't see how I am someone who's 'never happy' just because an incoming transfer says 'everyone can play' and I don't read further into tha. If we're going to be as good as we're supposed to be and want to be, everyone SHOULD be able to play.

Lets say I give DD a lot more basketball respect then any of us on the board...if that offends you...so be it! By the way I never asked for an apology...just saying I think DD might have a clue on D1 talent! Until I see different I'll take his word that there are some players on this team and will support them win or lose...its my team!

I wasn't offended by your thoughts on DD's quote. I was offended by how you portrayed me as a BU fan, which was quite inaccurate. I think it was pretty clear you were taking a pot shot at me and not just commenting on my opinion of DD's quote. If having an opinion makes me a BU hater, I guess I should just cancel my season tickets, my Bids for Braves items, my honorary coach game, my Braves Club membership, my hotel room for Arch Madness, my plane ticket for Gainesville, and every other BU basketball event that I have rearranged my entire winter for.

The team as a whole that Dunson played on at ISU was a poor team on the court, but it was due to lack of depth and experience, not lack of talent. Mike Taylor is in the NBA now. Jiri Hubalek is getting a chance with the Phoenix Suns having been invited as one of three players to their Tuscon training camp. Rahshon Clark is playing professionally in Greece. Wes Johnson is headed to be a stud at Syracuse. There was talent in Ames, what there was not was depth (8 scholarship players), experience (zero returning guards and only two remaining players) and no guard depth (only Mike Taylor, Corey McIntosh and Dunson on scholarship). If Dodie is saying the talent is better, than that is saying something. If he is saying the depth is better, that is not saying much.

Great thread Brocks. But how dare you be so optimistic? I bet when you put it on the board you didn't expect the kind of responses you're getting, except maybe from one poster.

                                (Drus reply to LB.....)

I have NEVER played D1 and I can tell what a special team looks like.....got a feeling a player like DD could tell also.....

Listen everyone makes some good points. I think Brocks is just excited like MANY of us and we all find different things that get us going. Some like to see and discuss results and many like to start earlier in the season and just dig for any nugget we can find.

Its like when we compare a current athlete to a past one and someone tells me..."don't put that pressure on him"...sorry, you really think what dru says on some internet site is going to up the pressure on some D1 athlete? Or after we win a game or 2 to start the season and we are happy you'll always find someone out there saying..."relax its only a few games, its a long season". I tell em..."you relax"...whats wrong with getting excited after EVERY win...personally its why I watch and follow BU hoops.

We ALL want the same thing in the end....why burst someones bubble just becuase you don't happen to agree with their individual "threshold' as to what excites them?

If DD's comments don't do it for YOU fine....if it gets Brocks going good for him. Besides he was just asking if anyone else took it as a positive. Its really no big deal. Go BU. Can't wait for the season to start.

(Dru's reply to LB's question above about if winning the conf. is to high a standard)

I think its something we ALL would like and if people "scold" you for that thats wrong IMO. I think the problem comes when people use THEIR standards to make a case against someone elses standards. I see it here ALL the time BOTH ways.

Sorry I REALLY goofed up the quote thing.....
