  • Illinois recruiting from Sun Times writer

Here is a really good, informative blog-style article from a Chicago Sun Times writer covering recruting for many of the Illinois Division I schools for 2009.

They don't have much about Bradley, other than some good words about Jordan Prosser and a passing mention of Darius Smith. There are a couple names mentioned for Illinois State, but they are both off-guards, something ISU is already loaded with. One of the ISU recruits, Tony Nixon, like former BU recruit David Brown, may have played himself into higher offers with some great performances in July. The other, Terry Johnson, is a sub-6' shooting guard from Chicago St. Rita that this writer seems to think is Division I material, but not many others do..

Actually, the current ISU roster has many shooting guards, but when these guys would come to campus, the Birds will have plenty of need for shooting guards. Currently, there are no upperclassmen shooting guards on the roster, and if these 2 09 recruits came to campus next year, the only shooting guards they would be joining are Eldridge and Odzic, so it definitely makes alot of sense for Jank to be looking for senior to be 2 guards.

I like how he mentions that Darius Smith is too good for Bradley ("played himself out of a midmajor") yet Smith isn't too good to outplay himself out of a mention for DePaul. They do have the series over us I believe. But the last few meetings were handled decisively in Bradley's favor. I'd like to play DePaul more to clear the air and let it be known that Bradley is the better team....

Tony Nixon, who has "blown up" in July, is now the target of much higher-level schools. Here is an article about Bruce Pearl's recruiting for 2009, and Nixon is one of his prime targets, and it doesn't mention ISU among the schools he's considering.--
