  • Will Bradley ever win The Valley again?

    How long has it been?

  • #2
As my dad always says "ever" is a long time.

I went to look at the media guide on BUBraves.com and it hasnt been updated in 2 years. It still lists Jeremy Fears!??
    Can we start winning soon?

I believe our last regular season title was 1995-96 lead by AP-1988 was our last tourney title with Hawk. Will we win again ? Yes. 2008/9-Maybe. Soon-definitely.

I hope a BCS conference hires Elgin away.

I hope the MVC goes back to being mediocre. Like 13th-17th best Conference in the RPI.

Then we can finish better than 4th-5th. Then we could win the MVC much more easily.

        THEN!

We'd have a GREAT TEAM to be proud of.

My answer is yes. But, BU needs to start finishing in the top 3 consistently for me to be happy. Enough top finishes and the championship will come. As I have stated many times...4-5 finishes each year is consistent mediocrity. Continued improvement in recruiting and coaching can get BU to the top. I am not asking for a change, just more consistent improvement. We will see.

I can agree w/ you that is what we should want. The one area we all have to realize is that only 1 school will win the conf and 1 school will win the tourn each year. Every single fan in the Valley wants the very same thing from their school that you want including myself.
The one thing I ask is are we finishing 4-5 because we do not have the talent or because the coaching is bad or could it be that the other teams in the valley are getting just as good of players as we are, which keeps us from looking like we are improving?
How many years has it been since we had 3 straight 20+ win seasons and a very good chance to have that happen again & again & again making it 6 straight years w/ 20+ wins seasons and 6 straight years of post season play.
I know for some anything short of going to the NCAA is failure and I love to see us go also but post season play is the 1st thing we should be shooting for. If we do not make post season play then we have had a bad season.

We all look at things differently. 3 seasons in a row of 20+ wins sounds very nice and shows some consistency. However, consistency of 4-5 finishes in the league is a consistency of mediocrity that I do not find acceptable or something to be proud of. I think consistency of 1-3in the league is acceptable, and should be expected/demanded. If you accept mediocrity, that is what you will get. People will spin the 20+ seasons and the 1 month of good basketball that got BU a Sweet 16, but the overall results are not satisfactory to me. Like I have said, I am not asking for a coaching change, just consistent improvement in the obvious areas that BU has been poor in. This will get BU to the top 3 consistently.

When it comes to the state of BU basketball right now, I don't think the words "coaching change" are even in the picture. That would be utter madness.

I'm not worried about JL keeping his job. I'm worried about BU keeping Jim Les. The way things are headed, especially with Sean Harris & Prosser on the way, I see a big pay raise in the near future as something that will be required.

I hope a big pay raise will be required, but right now I am not sure how many schools are beating down the door to hire away a 4-5 conference finish consistency.

How many years of 4-5 consistency is acceptable?

I'm just looking at the trend-lines here. Better balance. Better stability. Better recruiting. Mid-level conference finishes notwithstanding, the name Bradley is out . . . just walk down the street in any B10 town w/ a BU shirt on. People know it now.

If we finish 4-5 for 2 more seasons, I'll be antsy. I just don't see that happening.

And let's not forget this . . . Jim Les now has 6 years Division I head coaching experience. He is a much better coach in 2008 than he was in 2002.

His name was floating out there among media types for openings the past couple seasons. One or two more post-season runs and we'll be breaking out the calculators and salary charts.

Bradley would have challenged Drake last season had it not been for the injuries; BU won at Drake and lost on a last second shot at home, things are definitely looking good on the hilltop and this season should be another fun one to watch.

I hope you are correct, I want nothing more than for BU to succeed.

In the end it all boils down to recruiting, in my humble opinion. Is BU currently getting the best players available in the conference? If not, what's it gonna take?
