Mentioned elsewhere was a discussion about the Indiana All Stars playing a couple games against the Kentucky All Stars, but one high school All Star game was played last Saturday night.
Actually there were a series of games in Iowa.
Iowa has FOUR classes of high schools based on size, 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A.
The size (enrollment) cutoffs are roughly:
4A-the largest 48 schools (588 to 1940, just for reference Pekin HS would be the largest school in the state)
3A-the next largest 64 schools (291 to 575)
2A-the next largest 128 schools (129 this year because of a tie) (155 to 291)
1A-the rest, 150 schools (enrollment 14 to 154)
The winners Saturday in the first round were
2A over 3A, 107-95
4A over 1A, 119-93
Then in the Championship
4A beat 2A 124-122
In the 3rd place game 1A beat 3A 116-113.
Some of the notable players:
Jason Bohannon (Wisconsin recruit) had only 6 and 12 in the two games.
Jordan Eglseder (UNI 7 footer recruit) had 17 against 4A and 29 against 3A.
Roman Gentry had 11 and 10 in the two games
Casey Harriman (Creighton recruit) had 15 and 30 in the two games.
3A was particularly weak this season.
