I have never heard the name Jenelle Amene, here is his "My Space" page--

Note he says he is from Chicago Simeon and has a 49" vertical leap. He claims to have participated in televised dunk contests. He mentions that he would like to transfer to Bradley, but I think it's just wishful thinking.

He did play for Western Nebraska Community College, but not in 2005-2006. He is listed as a sophomore on their roster for 2004-2005, the only season he was on the team, under a different name, Jenelle Carter, #12--

He only got into 15 games and his scoring average was just 1.7 points per game

yes in a message he sent to me he claimed to have played against a high school junior whose name he never learned, and that it was between himself and Roman Gentry to recieve the scholarship, but the coaches signed Salley. He also conveyed a sense of betrail that the team picked up Fears and Williams after he was told we were out of scholarships. He told me he is enrolling at ISU(ill st) to try to play there.

This guy is just blowing smoke! There isn't one believable thing about what he says.

First, nobody has ever heard of him. He isn't rated by any recruiting service, and nobody around Chicago has heard of him. If he played for Simeon, he was definitely a sub.
And scoring 1.7ppg at junior college also isn't what you'd really tout from your resume. By the way, a couple of those Western Nebraska links take you to the box scores, and you'll see that Jenelle didn't even play in most of the close games, and got only 5-7 minutes in the games that were blowouts. That means he's only getting mop-up time!

I don't believe there is any chance Bradley gave this guy a look.

I can't find where this guy has played in the past year? Any AAU ball or exposure events? Apparently not. If he ever had a chance at a 4 year school, that time has passed. And he says he competes in some dunk contests? He didn't say he won any of them nor that he even qualified. In fact, I'd suspect if he even competed in these events, he has effectively disqualified himself from college, because those televised dunking contests are all sponsored and pay their participants which makes them professionals.

Lastly, He is an (6'2") "off-guard", which is the exact position that Bradley is the best set at for at least 3 more years.

Here is a story about recruiting that falls closer to the "Orthodox" than the "Unorthodox"

Wichita State is going hard after Israeli national Gal Mekel, in an effort to recruit him to WSU with their final scholarship for 2006.

He is listed many times, all over the Euro web sites as 1.81 meters tall.
Just do the math, and 1.81m = 5' - 11.25"

Oh well....................I guess he'll just have to go to ISU and kick our butt for revenge. Heck, with his stat line he'll probably be a starter at ISU...............maybe even their top scorer!

Just another reason to fear the juggernaut known as ISU!

Can anyone tell me if there has ever been an Israeli player in NCAA D-I or at least one who has played at a school and had some sort of impact? Is Israel known for producing fine college talent? If so, please give me a list (and don't name just one single guy brought over the the US by Jewish head coach at Cal, Ben Braun.)

I can say with certainty that no Israeli born player has ever made it to the NBA, and if Jordan Farmar latches on or is drafted, he will be the first Jewish player (born in USA) to enter the league in over a decade, perhaps two decades. Danny Schayes entered the NBA in 1982.

Will Gal Mekel's religion affect his ability to play on Saturday?

Mickey Berkowitz was the first Israeli to play basketball in the NCAA in 1975-1976 for UNLV. Since then there have been many others at all levels of the NCAA, including Mickey Berkowitz's son, Niv Berkowitz, who played for Marquette in 2003-2004.

Whatever happened to Tamir Goodman? I recall he was to go to Maryland (where they were going to alter their schedule of Sunday games for him) but wound up at Towson St.

From what I read on him back in like 2000 or 2001, it sounded like he was gonna be the 'Second Coming' of M Jordan - just white and Jewish.

Tamir Goodman was born and raised in the US and was not a native Israeli, though he now lives full time in Israel.

He was called "the Jewish Michael Jordan" in high school, but was nothing close. He was offered a scholarship by Maryland but then it was recinded when they couldn't accomodate his Orthodox Jewish religious beliefs by not playing on Saturday. So he played 1 season at Towson State then moved to Israel and has played professionally. He is now an Israeli citizen.

But Coach, you have to admit, that an exhaustive list of all the Jewish/Israeli players in D-I basketball still contains only 38 players since 1975 (roughly one new one per year), and only a handful since last century.
Even then, most played for obscure teams such as Md.-Eastern Shore, Monmouth, Towson St. etc.
And one of the initial questions was whether any of them "had some sort of impact".
I consider myself a little bit versed in college basketball, and yet have never heard of even one of those players before.
And only two within the past 2 decades have averaged 20+ mpg/10+ ppg.

I would favor the assumption that Israel is not a hotbed for recruiting top college talent.
