  • NCAA Allowed Comments

There was a topic to which I replied that was taken down. I don't know why. Anyway it involved what comments a coach can make (or not make) regarding a recruit who has yet to sign.

I provided the answer, but without documentation. This question has been discussed before so here is the documentation.

Click here, go to page 112, paragraph 13.10.2. Comments before Signing.

    Thanks, Mike. The clause says:
    13.10.2 Comments Before Signing.
Before the signing of a prospective student-athlete to a National
Letter of Intent or an institution??™s written offer of admission and/or financial aid, a member institution may comment
publicly only to the extent of confirming its recruitment of the prospective student-athlete. The institution
may not comment generally about the prospective student-athlete??™s ability or the contribution that the prospective
student-athlete might make to the institution??™s team; further, the institution is precluded from commenting
in any manner as to the likelihood of the prospective student-athlete??™s signing with that institution. Violations of
this bylaw do not affect a prospective student-athlete??™s eligibility and are considered institutional violations per
    Constitution 2.8.1.
    (Revised: 1/14/97)

The earlier thread was removed because it involved allegations about impropriety in recruiting that was not in any way linked to Bradley, and was based entirely on hearsay.

Didn't some football player hold a press conference announcing that he had a scholarship when in reality he was never offered one? What an odd situation.

Yeah, at first, the kid made it out to be like one of his friends played a bad joke on him. It made national news and everyone felt bad for him. However, then we learned he made the whole thing up. I felt bad for him. Some kid from a small town with dreams of the bigtime just took it too far.
