  • WNBA Parker cat fight

I'm surprised that no one mentioned this. Parker and the WNBA got in what I think is the WNBA's first major brawl.

    Here is another video-

Plenette Pierson instigated, started, and escalated the whole confrontation with Parker. Pierson, despite the made free throw, continued to push and elbow Candace Parker. Then when she caused them both to fall down, she got up and did the wide based, intimidation walk right over Parker trying to goad her into a fight.
Then, while trying to restrain Pierson from going after Parker again, teammate Cheryl Ford injured her knee, and now she is out for the year.

I was watching the game at the time, and even from the replays, I think Parker did nothing to deserve a suspension. The Detroit Shock were getting beaten at home, and this whole thing IMO was obviously Bill Laimbeer's instructions to rough the Sparks' players up a little and try to intimidate them. The intimidation and overly physical play started several minutes earlier, and it appeared that Detroit intentionally switched to that style to try to get back into the game. It's known to be the way Laimbeer plays the game.
