Rumors are building that Eddie Sutton, recently retired as head coach of Oklahoma State will soon be part of a plan for him to become the head coach at Oral Roberts University.
The present ORU head coach is Scott Sutton, the youngest son of Eddie. Scott just completed a fine season at ORU in which he won 21 games and made an NCAA appearance.
Scott Sutton's name has come up as a potential hire at some of the bigger schools who have been searching for a head coach, so officials at ORU are preparing for the possible need to replace Scott should he have another fine year in 2006-2007 and be lured away to coach elsewhere.
One of the possible scenarios involves hiring (luring out of retirement) Eddie Sutton as an assistant coach to work in 2006-2007 with his son, Scott. Maybe that alone will help keep Scott loyal to ORU, but even if not, then Eddie could take over Oral Roberts as head coach.
Eddie Sutton needs only ONE more win to reach 800 career wins, and the chance to get one more may help get Eddie out of retirement.
Interesting.
