Well I thought it was a long shot. However I do believe it would have made perfect sense for him. Close to home, possible early playing time for him after getting none a IU, Solid young players to go with him, Smaller classes to help get him personal attention when he had problems with grades at IU apparently.
Not even close to a long shot. I think he was listing BU and others just to draw attention to himself. Like BradleyBrave said, did anyone really think he was coming down after a year in the Big 10. As for his grades, if he couldn't get a passing grade in the Sampson system what makes you think that BU could sit this guy down and get him to study. I don't care how much 1 on 1 some guys get, they either don't care or they just can't cut it.
I think BU will be much better off without him.
There is no team in the the MVC that can match up to us the whole game, if our bigs come to play! BU will win the the MVC this year!

Great post OoB.
And I just wanna say, I don't want Bradley getting B10 rejects.
Players wanting out of a B10 school to play for Bradley is one thing... Bradley getting players cause they couldn't cut it because of grades (and/or on the court) becoming a "reject".... oh boy... not sure how good they would be for Bradley.
Would he have become an instant phenom? The MVC might not be the best conference, but it's a lot closer to the Big 10 than some think. I don't think he'd been an instant phenom at BU. We've got a pretty deep and experienced team returning.
Very well said.....just becuase he went to IU does that automatically put him "above" anything we have here? I wanted him because he was a big with some size.....
The fact that you have to refer to a guy like Hawk speaks for itself. If these guys are good enough to get to the NBA they will regardless of where they play. China, Europe, Africa, D1, 2 or 3 it doesnt matter. The idea that a player has a better chance to get to the NBA by playing against lesser competition doesnt make much sense to me. Why wouldnt you want to play against the best competition possible? Plenty of guys have excelled even stared in the MVC and never made the league.
Would HAwk have averaged over 30 ppg lets say had he gone to Indiana or Kansas. I really think Hawk was good and would have made it from anywhere but he REALLY stuck out at BU in the MVC. It helped push him to a lotto pick.
THe thing that helped Hawk the most IMO though was his "pro" coach his final year or two. He ran a pro turnout for him and .....well we all saw what it did.

Brandon McGee was a 3 star recruit when he signed with Indiana. I recall seeing messages posted by Indiana's fans on their message board questioning why Sampson would go after kids who were "only 3-stars".
As always happens, his ranking did go up a little after he signed with Indiana, but he is still listed as 3-stars by Rivals.
We have had the discussion before about players who have transferred from the Big Ten to the MVC. There have been a few such transfers through the years, but other than Larry Bird, there have not been any who dominated the MVC or became POY's. Most turn out to be average to a little above average players in the MVC. For every Marcellus Sommerville, and Kyle Wilson, there are a lot of Rich Beyer's, DeAaron Williams, Neil Planks, and others.
You also have to remeber Crean kickedhim out of IU, he did not leave on his own accord. I wonder if he would even have qualified to get into BU. I'm not to suprised that he would go to a bigger school where he can get through their academic requirements. As a poster said earlier, I'd rather have players that are not just good players but solid citizens. As much as an upside he is as a ball player there are plenty of questions mark in other areas. Anyway I wish him luck and a school like BU probably would have been better for him all around.
Well said SFP. it would have been nice to see what Mcgee could have done here, but any way we look at this, Mcgee would have been a huge gamble. IMO, we already used the "gamble scholie" on Brown. Had Mcgee landed here, that would have been 2 gamble scholies which is one too many.
Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final
???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™
Young played at one of the smallest high schools in Oklahoma. He lead all Oklahoma high schoolers in scoring for his junior and senior years, but because of the very small school and the level of competition, he stayed "under the radar", and few schools recruited him.
