  • Billy Packer GONE from CBS

Mike & Mike on ESPN2 has just reported that Billy Packer is GONE from CBS. He will be replaced by Clark Kellogg. Apparently, Mike & Mike did not like Packer either..... Big shock

    No news link yet................

    But here's his Wikipedia page ............. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Packer

Love him or hate him, he was one of the principal voices decrying the selection process in 1982, taking Bradley's case to the press.

Yep. Packer's motives may have been anti-Big East (Dave Gavitt was the committee chair that year) and BC received the last at-large bid. So, an argument could also be made they also deserved to be in the field. But his exact quote was "Bradley belongs in the tournament."

The guy loved college basketball, but was just way too elitist, stubborn, and old-fashioned for anyone's tastes anymore. I am sure he will still do ACC games like he has in the past. Oh well, after his beratement of Craig Littlepage and the selection of BU in 2006, I won't miss him for one second.

          Digger...you're next.

Digger can wear a pink tie so he's his normal color coded self; i.e. color coded with his pink slip.

                What will happen first:

A one hour love athon from Nantz about how important Packer is to basketball or ESPN hiring Packer and pairing him with Vital, Bilas and Digger in studio for the entire tourney

I do respect Packer as one of the game's leading authorities for the onset of the television era (mid-sixties to the cable age of the mid-1980's). But I think ultimately he fell victim to not adapting to the changes time brought and becoming perhaps to set in his ways.

                      The Chicago Tribune confirms: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports...,3420980.story

It's good to get an issue on which everybody here agrees!
A real fan celebrates the successes, but also acknowledges the failures of his team.

To me, Packer was not the same once he was not teamed with Al Mcguire on broadcasts.

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

I doubt he'll be paired with Dickie V as they apparently have a long-standing feud.... Besides, their egos would never allow them to work together as neither would be able to shut up long enough to let the other one speak.

Here's ESPN's take...note their prominent mention of his ripping of the MVC, BU, and WSU in 2006. Props to whoever wrote this article for including that.

CBS analyst Billy Packer's streak of Final Fours is over after 34 years.

Editor's Note: It's the same article as in the Tribune. Nonetheless, some fine journalism!
