update on BU construction.

I've said this before, but I hate that Morgan hall is still up. It ruins (or will ruin since it's a construction site now) the look of the new rec. center. This big new nice looking building standing what seems to be dangerously close to an out-of-date, dull-looking, piece of junk. Just look at the last picture and you'll know what I mean. That's not the only building thats extremely close to it either. A sorority house on the other side looks to stand 15' away from it, but at least that house looks nice, although still awkward looking being next to the big markin rec center. This is the first set of MANY MANY upgrades the Bradley campus needs to be "nationally prestigious".

Edit: Tornado he mentioned it: After you pass Morgan, you take a hard right to Haussler’s only existing in-out. And be prepared to dodge the sprinklers when the timer goes on.

Thats Chi Omega, I dont think they'll give that place up without a fight. And yes, the engineering building sticks out like an ugly thumb. It just looks depressing and bleak.

chi Omega poured a lot of money into renovations shortly before the Markin was announced, so don't expect them to move their house anytime soon.

They made a new house for Sigma Chi that is twice as nice and twice as big and its on fraternity row, that worked out ok for them. They will do the same for Chi O if they have to.

Oh..Old Morgan Hall what a architectural site to behold! They have already torn down the FH...dont let them take down even more of BU's history!

I heard that they made the windows in that building so narrow so that the engineers couldn't jump out of them....how quaint

I drove by there a few months ago, while visiting family, to check out the Field House site before and after (I'm in St. Louis). If there are any Sig Chi's on the board, feel free to chime in, but two observations on that house: (1) It is incredible, if not for the bizzare disproportinate scale of its size compared to all the other nearby structures, save maybe the art building (is it still the art building?); (2) Unless the actives there are complete losers, I can imagine that most rushers will see that house and want to jump it. (note, frat guys and frat alumnae will note this phrase--it is not inappropriate, trust me)

It's just not right, it has to be violating zoning ordinances for its aesthetically dipleasing gargantuan size (please note the wink)

well i was in my last year at BU when it as the first year for the sig chi house and I can tell you that they got a ton of pledges but a ton of them dropped as well

My wife was a Chi O at Bradley and still gets regular updates from the chapter. Chi Omega is strong enough both locally and nationally that they won't be forced into moving.

If they ever decide to move it'll be because they choose to...not because Bradley made them an offer and applied a little pressure.

Don't expect this to happen any time soon.

I am sure that if the right offer came around, a move could be arranged though.

A friend of mine owned some property in downtown Peoria that he used for his business. One of the hospitals wanted the property very badly. He kept holding out for many years until the hospital made an offer he couldnt refuse. Lets just say that my friend retired a little early.

I believe Sigma Chi is also strong enough both locally and nationally that they didn't get forced into moving.

Sigma Chi decided to move because they chose to, which helped with Bradley's offer (but not from the pressure... which had been there MANY years).

IMO - if Bradley wants the land where Chi-O sits bad enough, the offer will become sweet enough that they will choose to move. Hey... maybe it won't be too long before they get lonely over there pretty much by themselves.

I tried to tell you it was coming down MMob. But you wouldn't listen.

As for Chi Omega, they declined the initial offer by the University, but since it wasn't necessary at the time, the U. didn't really pressure them. However, as soon as construction started on the Markin Center, Chi Omega did approach BU to sell (don't know if lookie-lou's was a motivator or not) but the University said not now, but after this first phase of expansion the two parties will talk.
