July recruiting period

The July recruiting period starts today, July 6. Many coaches consider the next few weeks the most important of the year.

Memphis just landed one of the top recruiting classes for 2008, and now John Calipari and Kansas' Bill Self are working on all the top 2009 talent. Maybe if we are lucky, they will leave a few crumbs for the rest of us.--

One event going on right now is the LeBron James Skills Academy....with some college kids and some high schoolers.

Here are some reports about a couple players Bradley has faced in each of the last two post-seasons.

Tulsa's Jerome Jordan, their fine, young center, and Jarvis Varnado, the F/C on Mississippi State who beat BU in the 2007 NIT.

"In the drills with the college players, two lesser known guys had college coaches buzzing. The first was 7-foot Tulsa Center Jerome Jordan, who is unpolished but showed the potential (like Rider??™s Jason Thompson last year) to be a factor in the N.B.A. someday. The other was Mississippi State forward Jarvis Varnado, who is 6 feet, 9 inches but just ridiculously long. He??™s raw offensively, but his potential is such that it was hard to not watch him."

I am so glad that that Jordan is going back to college and someone didn't try to convince him to go pro. I realize he didn't have the benefit of the NCAA tourn. to showcase his talents but think if he did he may have become another POB. Again, I am not ripping on POB for taking the money but it is still a fact that he made the most out of the last 5 game he played here at BU because up till then he was just an unpolished player w/o that good of stats. He would have definately benefitted by coming back for 2 more years (although possibly not financially but only time will tell about that-it all depends if someone picks him up as a backup center or not)
