  • Alaska Tournament cancelled

I had not seen this elsewhere but it was just posted on the PJStar website that the Alaska tourney is cancelled. This may be a tough scheduling year.

Maybe there still could be time to get into another tournament, since there are so many more. I don't know if any are still looking for teams to add.

Another article from the Fairbanks paper--

Well, could we still schedule a non-conf game with Stanford? They've now got games to fill into their schedule too.

Well 3 teams along with Bradley are now missing out on 3 guaranteed games so it seems that we would have to look at scheduling a home and home with one of those teams or try to fit in a way to play all three in some sort of format. How about a home and home with Stanford and a home with Austin Peay.

At this date finding other options could be a real problem for all 4 teams. But I am sure that this cancellation is not a surprise to anyone involved.

Well, this stinks but at the same time likely makes it easier to see our Braves this non-con season. I think worst-case scenario we go for a 'buy' game somewhere with a big name, and then load up with winnable home games. It kept Creighton on the bubble all year last year, and didn't hurt Drake at all. I say lets go for the gaudy record and ensure postseason at the very least.

I always wanted to see a game at Austin Peay to hear the crowd chant "Let's go Peay!"

Does this open up the scheduling conflict we had with someone else? Was it Iowa St? We were going to postpone a game with someone for a year because of scheduling conflicts, maybe this problem gets fixed first.

I am not 100% certain, but I think that Iowa State initiated the cancellation of the game from our schedule this year.

I'd love for them to play Stanford! Palo Alto is only 30 minutes away.

From what I heard from BU, Iowa St had a scheduling conflict, and the two parties couldn't agree on a date. Therefore, it looks like they're going to postpone until 2009. We'll see if McDermott wants anything to do with BU after this year...if he's even still around in '09.

I'm sure Iowa State wants the game since it is a home game. If it was at Carver Arena, I'd be concerned. I haven't been to Ames, so I was looking forward to trying to make the trip.

Even though Iowa State had the scheduling conflict, I think BU now has a weeks worth of potential dates to offer.

I know that it is difficult to schedule teams, but I wonder if some decent mid-major schools have some openings. Davidson anyone???

As some have said previously, I would definately try to get Stanford on the schedule as well.

I think this stinks for a number of reasons and 1 not mentioned is that WE may not get to play close to home. Hoping something good comes of it, but it is hard to see right now. BU has it's work cut out to replace these games.

Most of these tournaments have a clause where teams can pay to drop out. I am sure there will be a team or two dropping out of a tournament between now and the beginning of the season. Wouldn't any tourny losing a team last minute like this love to get a team like Bradley at that point?

If that doesn't work I would like to see us add some home games that are winnable but NOT cupcakes, maybe 1 tough road game that we get a return game (Stanford?), and possibly a neutral site game in Chicago vs. someone good.
