  • Where does Indiana Get All the Money?

After spending millions to hire then fire Kelvin Sampson, then millions more to lure and hire Tom Crean, then millions more in legal fees and buyouts of all their fired coaches and assistant coaches......

Now comes the news, that they can't even kick the AD out the door who is responsible for all this mess, without it costing them millions more!!
He is still going to draw his multi hundred thousand a year salary until the end of the year, then he will get another $441,600 in severence, amounting to yet another year's salary, while they will have to hire and pay a replacement AD for presumably the same lofty amount!!
When all is said and done, this whole Sampson deal will have cost them $10 million++, and someone tell me again how the taxpayers won't have to pay any of it as the athletic departmment is self-sufficient....yeah, right!

If you are one of the remaining few who still buy into the line that taxpayers don't have to subsidize these athletic departments, then read the last link above!

ps-- here's one guy's take of some of the inside story at IU

Yet another story on how much it cost to hire then fire Kelvin Sampson.
    ...
Indiana University is still paying for Kelvin Sampson's tenure as its men's basketball coach -- and the price is still going up.

I would say their long list of distinguished donors and state-funded athletic budget is where the money comes from.

Ya know, they wouldn't be in this mess if they would've kept Bobby Knight.....who did a really, really good job during the SIU/Duke game last night.
A real fan celebrates the successes, but also acknowledges the failures of his team.

I'm not a Knight fan but he did a great job doing color in that game. If you are a student of the game you should try to catch the games he is doing.

            really??
Last night 3 or 4 different times he spent 2-3 minutes extensively "teaching" the listening audience the value of being in the "double bonus", because it means you get the potential of shooting 2 FT's the entire rest of the game!
Gee--Bobby, thanks, I never knew that!!!

T Duke did get into the bonus quite early 2nd 1/2 and it did make a huge difference, so why not? He did go over and pointed out defensive schemes about Duke and SIU that I hope the BU folks were watching regarding weak-side help. Tell me of another color commentator that goes into the details he did last night. I enjoyed it!

Knight was great to listen to last night, I have always enjoyed his honest, no nonsense candor.

its a nice contrast to DIckie V's nonstop nonsense

I like how ESPN made that movie "Season on the Brink" about Knight and always talked about his tirades and bad treatment of the players, but seemed to have forgotten all of that because he is on their network and can share his expertise. Now they extensively advertise him and use him to get people to watch games. He is kinda boring, but he does know a whole lot.

I thought Knight was great as well. He's really only been involved with ESPN for a short time, but he seems to be a natural at doing TV.
