  • Patrick O'Bryant articles

As the NBA draft approaches, there continue to be articles daily about Patrick O'Bryant and other players in the draft.

Article in Salt Lake City newspaper, The Deseret News. Utah is very interested in acquiring POB, but he may be gone by their #14 pick--
Ex-Bradley center O'Bryant receiving plenty of praise
7-footer made a good impression in his Jazz workout

Here are a couple quotes from this article--
"The word out of Utah was that Blaine (Minn.) native Patrick O'Bryant . . . made such a good impression in a workout with the Jazz that the 7-foot center is at the top of their draft list," Minneapolis Star Tribune sports-gossip columnist Sid Hartman wrote earlier this week.

"My prediction . . . O'Bryant sneaks into the top five on draft night," ESPN.com draft analyst Chad Ford recently blogged.

Jazz basketball operations senior vice president Kevin O'Connor thinks the 7-foot sophomore is a bit raw, but likes the upside O'Bryant offers"He brings length, and athleticism," said O'Connor. "He has terrific hands, and can score. (But) he needs to fill out a little bit."

Here is an article on NBADraft.net on workouts from Wednesday. The article suggests that one of the players that most of the 150-200 NBA scouts wanted to see the most was Patrick O'Bryant--

This is great news, if he keeps standing out in work outs, maybe he could be drafted by the Bulls, they definately need help at center.

I'd like Da Bulls to make a 3-way trade moving down far enough with their 1st pick to still get Brandon Roy. Then moving up far enough with their 2nd pick to select Patrick.

Brandon Roy = Ben Gordon. I really think the Bulls gotta go after size. They need a center, but Sweetney and Harrington, while nice players, aren't going to cut it if the Bulls want to win a seventh championship. But what you said about trading down, if possible, would be a good solution.

And don't forget Da Bulls have a good chance of getting the overall number 1 pick next year. Thanks Knicks!

              New NBA Draft Developments

One of the very best European players expected to be in this year's draft was Brazilian Tiago Splitter who has dominated the Euro leagues for several years. But alas he is unable to get out of the contract that he's under until at least 2008. He has announced he won't be in this year's draft, and will hope to be able to buy out by 2007 but no guarantees.

Shanon Brown, junior from Michigan State had previously put his name in the draft but not hired an agent maintaining the possibility of returning to Michigan State. But now he has announced he will stay in the draft, hire an agent, and NOT return to college for his senior year.
He is solidly projected as a first rounder.

George Karl, head coach of the Nuggets is using all of his weight to get the team to draft his son, Coby Karl. George thinks son Coby is a talented, second round caliber SG, but of course nobody else in the world does.
Coby Karl is only a junior at Boise State, and is not projected by anyone to go in the 2nd round, but if George has his way, he'd like to be coaching his son. Even more startling is that Coby Karl was just diagnosed with cancer is is just now undergoing his 2nd round of chemotherapy.
George Karl's only son, Coby, worked out for the Nuggets on Wednesday just three weeks after undergoing a second round of chemotherapy for thyroid cancer.

well Coby Karl has atleast been worked out by a few other teams too, its not as far fetched as it sounds, but if the kid is gonna have serious health issues (i.e. the cancer) he should stay in school for his senior year, unless its gonna be a try to get into an NBA game before i die type of thing.

I about fell on my arse today.

Got a friend that is a Bradley fan yet listens/watches many shows that don't give much credibility to mid-majors.

He said he saw on ESPN recently, as they showed footage of a camp or something for the NBA, ESPN listed top prospects in the draft by position. He said OB didn't even make ESPN's TOP 5 Centers in the draft. WHAT??? He said Gray was #1 and Boone was in the Top5. You have GOT TO BE KIDDING??? Is ESPN STILL in denial over the success of teams that are from conferences they don't showcase on Big Monday, Stupid Tuesday, Weak Wednesday, That's All Thursday, F*#@ Friday, Sat on my Arse Saturday, and Nothing Much Sunday.

I wonder if those things are one reporter's/commentator's opinion or if there is a panel of NBA/NCAA reporters that compile the lists.

My guess is that particular one was just one reporter's feelings... and s/he must have been under a tight deadline to have forgotten about PO'B.

Unlike earlier this week when 200 NBA scouts watched Patrick O'Bryant work out, the same did not occur when Pittsburgh's Aaron Gray had his open workout in Orlando in front of NBA scouts.

Only 60-75 NBA scouts came to watch Gray (per ESPN's Andy Katz), but before the one hour workout was done, way more than 2/3 of them had gotten up and left. (less than 20 remained to the end)

Reports are that he labored running up and down the court, has significant need to work on his conditioning and moves, and is so far from proper conditioning to be in the NBA that he may have hurt his stock with this workout.

I personally find this humorous, since another self proclaimed expert (Gregg Doyel from cbssportsline) has stated Gray was better than O'Bryant and would go way ahead of Patrick.

I am not sure what to think of Doyel. Sometimes he makes good points but then he comes up with crap just like this that blows his credibility with me.

A recent fave of mine that he loses tons of credibility amidst a great article is this piece he wrote:

After reading a solid piece (in my mind), I read through the "Talk Back" posts made. Apperently, Doyel originally wrote Bradley had only made it to the second round before he edited/corrected it to say they made it to the Sweet 16.
