  • Collins Training in Canada

Posted on bubraves.com yesterday -- good for him! Hopefully he's taking names up there and ready to be the role player he can be. I've never heard of this, so if anyone has other comments/thoughts...?

    Collins Training in Canada
    Release: 06/18/2008

PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley senior center David Collins (Toronto, Ontario/Emery Collegiate Institute) has been invited to train with the Canadian Development Men’s National Team in preparation for a two-game series next week versus an Italian all-star team.

Bradley’s 7-foot center is part of the 12-man training camp roster for the Canadian Development Men’s National Team, which will play the Selezione Lega Nazionalle Pallacanestro Under 22 All-Stars June 24 and June 25 at the University of Toronto Athletic Centre. The Canadian roster currently features eight NCAA Division I players. Collins is one of two 7-footers on the roster, joining former Oakland University center Jordan Sabourin, who played for Bremen in Germany’s Pro A division this past season.

A transfer from Missouri State-West Plains, Collins played in 27 games for the Braves as a junior last season. Shooting 65.2 percent from the field, Collins averaged 3.8 points and 2.4 rebounds per game last year, helping Bradley (21-17) to a third consecutive season with at least 21 wins and a run to the championship series of the inaugural College Basketball Invitational national postseason tournament. He was named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week Nov. 19 after a double-double (10 points, 14 rebounds) performance versus Maryland-Eastern Shore and he recorded eight points, six boards, two blocked shots and an assist in a season-high 20 minutes April 2 versus Tulsa in the second round of the best-of-three CBI championship series.

Collins becomes the fourth Bradley player to participate in the Canadian national team program, following in the footsteps of Jason Faulknor, James Gillingham and Jerome Robinson. Gillingham and Robinson both have enjoyed stints with the senior national team and continue to excel professionally overseas.

I hope DC gets a chance to develop and play a bit.
There is another thread going on this topic...

Iowa State's Lucca Staiger is going to his native Germany and playing with their national team, and it has to be very good for him to get that kind of solid competition during the summer.
