Yes, he is very welcome to be happy with Illinois, I have no plans to talk anyone out of it.

I just find such stark, contrasting sentiments....often coming from the very same crowd...

To BU-- we want wins, we want them NOW, and we aren't going to give the coach 4-5 more years to get all the players he wants

To UIUC-- OK, OK, even though almost all the wins you had were with the previous coach's players, we are still willing to wait until maybe even 2012 so you can finally get a bunch of your own quality recruits in place and groom them for a year or two, and we are going to be tickled pink watching our team get beat at home by the likes of Miami (OH) and Tennessee State, and going 5-13 in the conference, because we know there's still the hope that the 14 - 15 year olds who have promised to come to Illinois will honor their commitment (although there's examples to believe it might not happen), and those guys are going to be gooooooood!

Hmm, I don't know any Illinois fans that were tickled pink about losing to Tennessee State and Miami (OH). And nobody is expecting to wait until 2012 for a good team. As I said, I expect this season to probably be an NIT team, then next year to return to the NCAA tournament, then be awfully good when the 2007 recruits are seniors. Would Illinois fans have preferred to not miss the NCAA tournament this year? Heck yes. But most understand that missing the tournament for the first time in 10 years isn't the end of the world when you can see a much brighter future ahead. Believe me, Illinois fans raised a big stink as this season went along, so it's not like everyone sat around high-fiving.

The Illinois fans that are happy about the future of the program are generally confident in the abilities of McCamey, Smith, Legion, Davis, Tisdale, and Cole, who will all be here for the next 3 seasons (except Smith, who will be here for the next two). I don't think anyone expects the "14-15 year old" HS seniors in the class of 2009 to be the leaders of the team in their first collegiate season. They'll provide depth on what should be a very good team.

Let's just agree to disagree on this one, tornado. I don't really want to battle this out everytime someone posts about Illinois.

Sounds to me like someone is battling it out just about everytime UIUC is mentioned.

What's funny to me is, there are over 300 Div I teams all fighting for the same thing. Now, maybe only about 50 or so have a shot with about 5-15 having any realistic chance of attaining it on any given season. But to state in 2008 a team will have Final4 caliber players for the 2011 season... it just makes me chuckle.

I wish you well. And btw, I like my "crow" grilled. How do you prefer yours?
