  • Scandal?

Following in the footsteps of Kelvin Sampson, Larry Eustachy, Jim Harrick, even Dave Bliss...all of whom didn't remain unemployed for long even though they gave college basketball a black eye with their behavior..........

    Tic Price........
Most are probably a little unfamiliar with him, but.........
He hold the #6 spot in Sports Illustrated's list of all time worst scandal-involved college coaches (Bliss is #1):
    http://209.85.141.104/search?q=cache...&gl=us&strip=1

But he was involved in a "sex" scandal in 2000 as head coach of Memphis, when it was revealed he was having an affair with a college student, then had paid her off ($17,000) to remain quiet about the affair.

But------he was quickly rehired as head coach at McNeese State, and
although he had a winning record over 5 years was cut loose in 2006, then got hired as assistant at North Texas, and now moves up the ladder again as he is now hired at Lamar University as assistant.
It shows two things....I guess people deserve a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th chance, or that only the winning really matters....

Here is a sampling of my blogs...let me know if it interests you...

One of the ISU recruits, Terrence Johnson, was in
Peoria playing for Chicago North Lawndale yesterday
    - they lost to Champaign Centennial and will now
    play for 3rd place.
Lawndale won last year in 2A, over Manual but
Johnson only this past fall transferred there so he
was not part of that State Championship game.
For those who didn't see the game, I would descirbe
Terry Johnson as very slim and 5-11 (he has been
billed as 6-0 and 6-1, but no possible way!!)
He is very athletic and gets a lot of his points on
    drives and breakaways.

ISU is counting on his as their POINT GUARD of the
    future...but I have my doubts.
He is only 4th on the team in assists (2.4 per game)
and is not a good passer, he looks too much to
    shoot.
And he really doesn't have much of an outside shot.
He can score when open and on breakaways, but I
am not convinced watching the kid that he will get
    those points in college.

So, in summary, he is a skinny, 5-11 shooting guard
who doesn't really have a good outside shot.
Sort of what Darian Norris would be if he lost 40
    pounds and suddenly couldn't shoot.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    Speaking of ISU's recruits....

Jon Ekey was just rated 24th in Missouri

there aren't too many names anywhere on the list
over 20 that anyone would recognize...none are DI
    players.

Illinois basketball has really fallen on hard times. Only
1 D1 Illinois school made the NCAA and they were
bumped out after their first game.
Only 1 school made the NIT, and they are gone
    immediately.

So guess which Illinois D1 school is the only one to
win a postseason game this year? And the only one
    still playing-- Bradley
    .

The ISU fans discuss their team next year............

    and page 2...

they are all hoping their freshmen and newcomers
    will be starters next year....

...one guy named BirdBrain says: "Odzic, Shipley
and Rubin contributed quite a bit this year".
What is he smokin'? Those 3 guys were a complete
loss this year, and all of them had been there for a
    full season before this year.

they also speculate that Blake Mishler will help as will
a couple of their incoming guys......but as noted in
an earlier blog, those two guys from Kansas City will
have trouble scoring if they keep up their 22%
    shooting percentages!

they could be hurting unless Osiris really steps up...

Speaking of ISU...both Bobby Hill and Dinma
Odiakosa's name appear on the police online
    database again...

they were both arrested last week for some
    "ordinance violation"...which generally means a
violation of a local ordinance...the most common of
which involve underage drinking or public fighting or
    causing a disturbance.

Whatever....it sure is odd how a week or two don't
go by without one of the ISU basketball players
    having another court date!

then within the past week both Bobby Hill & Dinma
    had another traffic violation...

now Hill has court dates on BOTH April 13 and April
    22.

and Dinma also has court dates

surely this stuff is a distraction..........

Here is a Scout report from the Hutchinson NJCAA
    tournament-

Notice Chris Lowery's name prominently mentioned at
the bottom as being in attendance--

Stay up to date with all the college basketball recruiting news and more at 247Sports.com

And here is the next day's report- again, SIU is
mentioned, though most of the other coaches had
    left--

Stay up to date with all the college basketball recruiting news and more at 247Sports.com

even the SIU fans know they need some junior
    college help right away...

In all the years Lowery has been there, he has
NEVER relied much at all on junior college players, he
    must be pretty desperate!!

the guy who has been discussed for a year as
Lowery's top target for 2010 is a kid out of Chicago,
    Phillip Jackson...an athletic PF

but Jackson had a bad season and has fallen off the
radar....so it sounds now like SIU really doesn't want
the guy and may be looking elsewhere.

One comment from a guy on the SIU board says
    this...

"Do we really need another raw big man that
    takes 3 years to develop?"

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

an SIU blogger has a comment or two about BU in
the CBI....at least it's not a negative comment...

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Here's a discusion on one of the Illinois boards..........

it's a thread all about Bill Cole...starts off saying he
needs to play more....but after about 3 or 4 posts,
    quickly turns the other way...

almost everyone has their doubts, he is too skinny,
can't rebound, and other players are going to move
past him and Illinois will use more guards when they
    get those good recruits in...

ultimately there are even "grass is greener"
references and a few hints that Cole still just doesn't
    fit and should not play.
"Cole has gotten thrown around like a
    wrag doll
under the basket and showed no shooting ability
most of the season. Amazing how he makes 4 3's
(total) in last 2 games and some here think he is the
answer...... I am not going to go gaga over hitting a
    couple shots (finally)."

    and this.........

"I think if I was Cole I would transfer. I
    mean what
does it take to crack the rotation. What does he
need to do. The guy appears to be giving 100% and
if the reports out of practice are correct and he can
defend and shoot what do you have to do? Weber
puts d-bags out there like McCamey and Tisdale
sh*itting the bed and you don't get off the bench till
10:00 minutes left in the game. Also how many
games did he not even get off the bench except
garbage time. If it were me, I would be packing my
bags and going to ISU or Bradley. That way I
actually get the opportunity to showcase what I can
    do ON THE COURT.

Listen if I was a 3 or 4 star player and had to sit
there and watch these players over and over pass
the freakin ball around the perimeter and wait till the
shot clock nearly is expired to chuck up some terrible
looking shot, I would be finding myself another
opportunity somewhere else. Did he even average 3
minutes a game in the Big Ten this year."

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I don't know why, but when Saint Louis missed the
NCAA, then was not included in the NIT (their record
was 18-14 and not one person in the universe
actually thought they had a chance to get an NIT
bid) they were miffed and declined any bids to the
    CBI or the CIT.
They issues a statement that their players were
tired from the long season and needed a rest.

What?? Tired...then take a day off and go to the
    zoo!!
What kind of attitude is that??
I wonder if the players agree.....I'd bet they wanted
    to play more games!!
I am sure glad our guys want to play.....
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    Here's a team that's a lot like us.........

they are a good midmajor with some recent
success...but they had a relatively off year (21-13)
and yet the fan base is unhappy....
they even had a big man leave after his sophomore
year to go to the NBA...
sound familiar....the head coach Mark Fox doesn't
understand the fans' displeasure with a 21 win
    season!
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

we have dunks all the time by the kids at March
    Madness....
but you want to know where a single DUNK actually
    becomes INTERNATIONAL NEWS??

Here it is....one single dunk by Sylvia Fowles in an
    international news item...

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

lastly.....by now I am sure you all know that Craig
Robinson, the head basketball coach at Oregon
    State, is Michelle Obama's brother...
the guy is a good coach but his team was like the
worst team in the Pac-10 the past couple years.
He wouldn't be getting a bit of national publicity if it
were just for basketball, but since he is related to
the prez, he's on TV all the time...on ESPN, on the
    news, on Oprah...

But I think all it does is call attention to how really
    bad Oregon State ahs been.

    Despite a 14-17 record and a 7-11 conference
    record...
Oregon State hosted a CBI game!
In one of the ugliest games of the year, Oregon
State helped put Houston out of it's misery in a
    49-45 low scoring affair.
Houston shot 28% from the floor and 22% from
    3-pt....
Most of us Bradley fans still can recall the rather
uncomplimentary things Houston coach Tom Penders
said about Bradley and the MVC in 2006 when the
Valley had 4 teams in the NCAA and Houston got left
home to play in the NIT.

Thanks to Craig Robinson....Tom Penders is booted
    again!
