The NBA draft is June 26. The deadline for players to withdraw their names from the draft and return to school is Monday, June 16.
Note that there are some differences in NCAA rules this year that allow NBA teams to pay all the expenses for prospects to travel and work out for NBA teams. These new rules encourage the players to milk the system and wait until the last minute before they announce they are withdrawing. It bothers college coaches because it keeps the players away from colege too long, and wears them out. It also hurts the college's recruiting if the player eventualy decides to stay in the draft.
Here is more info about some of the players facing Monday's deadline.--
ESPN's Chad Ford's latest mock draft. He reports one interesting fact--Miami, who owns the #2 pick, intends to work out Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley eventually, but the first player they worked out individually was O.J. Mayo! What gives? Ford thinks Miami might pick Mayo with the #2 pick, and that they do not like Beasley as well. That means they could trade down a pick or 2 and get Mayo plus another starter --
And an ESPN article about an NBA camp in Europe for European NBA hopefuls. You need to be an ESPN Insider to read the entire article, but it says there is one clearcut European player who will go in the 1st round- Danilo Gallinari, and several others who could be drafted later.--
