  • Bill Self Pulls Off His Recruitment Scam Again

He got Mario Chalmers by throwing $$ at Chalmers' dad and hiring him.
And he saw what K-State did to land Beasley by hiring Beasley's AAU coach for more than what most D-I head coaches get.

so now Self wanted to land a pair of twin basketball stars from the east coast...
But...the Morris twins (Marcus & Markieff) were already verbally committed to Memphis.
    But......that didn't bother Bill Self.......
he just offered the kids' mom a well paying job on campus that's outside of the NCAA's scrutiny....
Guess what....the Morrises decommited from Memphis and have now verballed to Kansas, and are coming to kansas with mom who'll start her job this week!

(ps-- the Morrises were also in the news as being the recipients of numerous of Kelvin Sampson's illegal phone calls)

First the article says the decomitted from Memphis before thier was any contact with Kansas

Second until the NCAA makes this against the rules, who cares? Maybe we should start doing this, it seems to work.
    Can we start winning soon?

Well I'm sure I'm in the minority. I care though. I would be embarrassed if it happened at Bradley.

Do I remember correctly?...............I remember it happening with Dick Versace getting Anthony Webster's dad a job in the early 80's.

so then tell me why this should be allowed when Kansas does it?

Is it againt the rules? Does it break any NCAA bylaws? If it does then it should not be allowed and Kansas should be punished, if not then what is the problem?

Also check the definition of SCAM, this doesnt appear to be one.

a fraudulent or deceptive act or operation… See the full definition

Whats wrong with this picture? Are we still mad at Bill Self for leaving Illinois or is it because he is a good recruiter and does it with in the rules. I'm sure not disapointed that he suck it to Memphis, hard to feel sorry for them with the class they have coming in this yr. (lets look at their recruiting system)! If there is no recruiting violations whats the trouble here. If the Morris twins and mom can cut a better deal, than more power to them. It happens everyday in the world we live in. NO FOUL, PLAY CONTINUALs!!!!

There is no team in the the MVC that can match up to us the whole game, if our bigs come to play! BU will win the the MVC this year!

                    Thanks for the info T.

Had Bradley done this - KW, his ilk, and some posters on this board would be so outraged.... they'd start by calling it to Kyle Whelliston's attention and then demand he be fired.

Oh... but it is within the guidelines. So let's follow suit and do the same. It's all fair and good. Couple MVC Championships and MVCT Championships... some NCAA Tourney wins... it'll be all worth it. Our sights are set lower, as for Kansas, they look for Final 4's and National Championships and it is worth it and ok...

That's not what I said. You should know that . Bradley had enough class and respect for The University to police themselves and deal with it accordingly......As Murph said -- The end of the Versace era (and I love and loved our Dickie V).

That's the difference between Bradley and many BCS schools like KU!

The funny think is at no point does that article mention that these kids are going to Kansas because of a job thier mom got. In fact the entire article is about a Kansas assitant coach and his east coast ties. The article talks about how hard he works his conncections and how many times he goes to watch the kids play. How he calls them every time he can within the rules. How the attention they were getting from Kansas was made them feel special and that the werent geting that previously from Memphis which is why they decommitted. Bill Self wins every where he goes and he left one job for another better job so he must be cheating right?

Bill Self has lots of NCAA violations everywhere he goes.....at Illinois and now at KU, where they are still on probation after getting remarkably soft NCAA penalties for such wide ranging and numerous violations (including two of their basketball players getting upwards of $5,000 and possibly $10,000 given to them as "unrepayable loans" by a Kansas booster.)

Unfortunately the NCAA and the media go soft on Self and Kansas, but I am not bound by the same bias and self interests as the media are, so I will cite the truth and the facts, as I have done right here in this post, for example.

Although it is not illegal for Kansas to hire the Morrises' mom, it is against the NCAA rules to funnel gifts or cash to the players by giving them to their mom, but of course that would be something the NCAA wouldn't look into any faster than they bothered to look into the $300,000 in money, gifts, and freebies Reggie Bush got 4 years ago, yet the NCAA still hasn't blinked an eye...but soon may finally be forced to by independent bloggers and folks (like right here on BradleyFans) who finally "outted" OJ Mayo and kept the pressure on with revelations about Bush, and if an investigation ensures, just maybe it might force the NCAA into action and check Bush as well.
I am not holding my breath, but now that the Feds and the IRS are involved, I can speak from personal experience, that those guys aren't so incredibly biased, selective, and unfair and they do go after the powerful and influential and rich even though it might be unpopular with the media!

Just because something isn't illegal/doesn't break the rules/etc. doesn't mean that it passes the "smell test."
I think it's safe to say that this doesn't quite have a nice fragrance....
A real fan celebrates the successes, but also acknowledges the failures of his team.

Unfortunately in today??™s college sports world none of the revenue sports smell good.
