I had a chance to watch most of the the teams at the Richwoods Shootout, and will go into more detail about any particular player or team if anyone has specific questions, but here is an overall summary....
Most of the teams were very small...very few had any size at all.
New trier had a nice combination of 6-9 Fred Heldring and 6-5 SG Alex Rossi, but neither impressed me much as they didn't seem to have the ability to get the ball in the basket.
South Elgin had a huge 6-9 kid who looked a bit like Sam Singh, but he also just didn't have a decent touch around the rim.
And Metamora has 6-9 Zeke Schneider, but nobody else on their team can hit the broad side of the gym, so Metamora barely scored in double digits in any of their games!
Notre Dame's Charlie Bryant was lightning quick and should score well in the Mid-State, and Richwoods has several good guards, as they went 2-0.
Washington shoots and passes well, as did Springfield High.
Washington's Dyricus Simms-Edwards is the best player in the gym today, but he won't be able to do it alone, and Washington at times, looks like it's just Dyricus, unless Ben Woerner gets hot.
Morton just doesn't have any scorers, and looked like a bunch of kids who've never played together before. Even some of the Morton parents were a little frustrated with the guidance the team has been getting (or maybe not getting).
Schaumburg with DePaul decommit Cully Payne is a decent, big, deep team, but they had trouble putting away even a 2A team, as they just don't score well, and had to rely on defense.
Payne is a lot like Northern Iowa' Jared Josten, except he has no outside shot. He gets 100% of his points on breakaways off steals.
Manual is a lot like we saw last March, quick and can score.
A couple of absolutely inexcusable scenes were caused by Latrell Sprewell-wannabe's who lost it and got T'ed up.
In one game East Peoria sophomore Joe Kelch (the head coach's son") cursed a ref and got a "T" and an ejection, and so his dad, decided to get into the fracas, and he got tossed, too.
But the really comedic scene was when Bloomington's D'Mitri Riggs got his jock handed to him enough times by Notre Dame's Bryant, that he lost his cool and took it out on the ref.
By the time it was over, Riggs was given FOUR techinicals, ejected, and probably won't be let back in the gym for a long, long time.
Jim Molinari was in the stands watching his boys play for Peoria Christian, who beat Metamora easily then lost a tight battle with Schaumburg.
Senior Billy Molinari had a good shooting game against Metamora, but vs. Schaumburg, he was off on most of his shots.
Pekin also has way too many new faces, and just hasn't meshed yet, as they had trouble scoring.
