  • 2008 Las Vegas "Classic"

The Las Vegas Classic tournament field is set for November. And I use the term "Classic" lightly.
This group almost makes the tournament that ISU is hosting look good.
Creighton is in the tournament, but they are the only school that had an RPI under 137 last year, and there are several RPI killers in this field.

Here are the 8 schools with last year's RPIs--
    Creighton - RPI 46
    Saint Louis - RPI 137
    Depaul - RPI 158
    Fresno State - RPI 243
    Liberty - RPI 256
    Northern Colorado - RPI 277
    Southern - RPI 301
South Carolina Upstate - RPI 306

Funny how the Las Vegas Classic can only draw four teams from west of the Mississippi, and none from within 300 miles. I guess they don't count on any local interest, and are only interested in luring people into Las Vegas from out of town hoping they'll bring a wad of cash to drop.
The Chicago Classic is totally different and literally fills the arena by including popular local teams.
The BU/Illinois game a couple years ago was a very tough ticket.

Three of those teams could be significantly better than last year and if that happens they could have an under 100 RPI by mid-season -- DePaul, SLU and Liberty. But I agree, this doesn't look too good for CU right now and could actually harm them by seasons' end.

I know they have a couple of upperclassmen, but isn't SLU going to be playing a lot of freshmen throughout the season?
