  • Don Nelson to return for one more season

In case there was any chance the Golden State Warriors might try to re-sign Patrick O'Bryant, this ends that thinking.

Great news my golden friends. Nellie's back for one more go to save this franchise and its loyal fanbase from its incompetent owner and front office! Nellie spots a final unBELIEVEable 30th...

Report from the Orlando predraft camp

Report on many of the players at the Orlando Pre-draft camp.
It sounds like Derrick Rose struggled to shoot the NBA three, while Michael Beasley is mentioned as one player who surprisingly shot the NBA three well.

Seems like he did pretty well to me.

"Anyone who watched the Memphis Tigers play this year knows that Derrick Rose is a freak athlete, but nothing makes that more apparent than watching him participate in offensive drills again token defense. He may be the best athlete in basketball, casually attacking the basket at a speed that most players can??™t even achieve in game settings. He didn??™t shoot the ball particularly well, but made a few NBA threes and showed off his amazing repertoire of crossovers and change of direction moves. The fact that he not only participated, but went hard on every repetition is probably a good sign"
      Can we start winning soon?

If the Warriors were smart they would get rid of their very mediocre coach and keep Patrick.

Yeah you definitely want to keep a player that averages 1.7 ppg for his "career" and dump a coach. I don't think that POB was given much chance to succeed there, but a good player would have at least shown some NBA skill from time to time and dominated the D-league. POB is done in GS, and I think he'll be lucky to have a job in the NBA next year. If they (GS) were smart (and they showed that they aren't by taking him so high), they would have tried hard to trade him after they signed Donnie. Nelson is far from a great coach, but he's entertaining and players like him. Putting people in the seats should be the #1 priority for GS. They are very far from challenging for an NBA title.

And about Rose, Gordon was the most athletic player in his draft too. Sounds far too similar for my liking. Beasley is a freak.

Patrick will be in the NBA long after Nellie is gone.

Do you think someone said the same thing 20 years ago? Its hilarous to me that people think POB would be so much better if it werent playing for Don Nelson. Take a look at his resume, Im pretty sure he knows what he is doing.

Nelson is like a lot of coaches who have had success, they are sometimes resistant to adapt and change, and assume that because their style worked for them in the past, it will work again any time and with any team. I think that philosophy is less true now than ever because players tend to be more selfish, and unidimensional today. The coaches who have success in the NBA now are more commonly the ones who adapt their style to the personnel they have. Phil Jackson, and a few other coaches have shown themselves to be able to adapt and contnue to be successful with different teams.
Coaches like Larry Brown and Nelson seem less flexible. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Nelson have less success again this coming year, and leave before his contract runs out like Brown did with the Knicks.

This is simply a matter of a player (POB) being with the wrong team and the wrong coach. If POB gets with the right team and coach he could be a very effective back-up center and give 10-15 mpg, 6-9 ppg, and 4-6 rpg. Then, maybe after a few years he could be a relatively effective starting center by the time he's 28-30 years old.

I do think POB will be in the league with someone for the next 10 years or so. At 7' tall with average to slightly above average skills and athleticism he is better than a lot of centers who have made a career in the NBA

Dont get me wrong, I certainly hope POB does well, I just dont think you can blame a HOF coach for his shortcomings. If he were good enough to play and contribute he would be playing.

I agree Lakeview. I saw a few Golden State games on TV this past season, and last season. Looking at the guys who play center for GS, I have to believe if POB can't play before them, you can't blame the coach. Always a good cop out though. Also, I hope POB will be in the NBA long after Don Nelson is gone, but gosh, Nelson has been in the league since before POB was born, so that wouldn't be a big surprise.

Gosh, you would think that in 29 years of coaching in the NBA, that Nelson would win at least one title.

Would you? What percentage of total NBA coaches have won a championship? Thier have been 62 NBA championships of those Phil Jackson, Red Auerbach have 17. Several other coaches like Pat Riley, Greg Popovich, Chuck Daley and Rudy Tomjanovich have at least two. So lets say maybe 35 coaches ever have won an NBA championship out of hundrends maybe thousands of coaches all time. Maybe you would think he would have won at least one but it doesnt seem so easy to do. He is ranked 20th in winning percentage all time and second in all time wins so he must be doing a few things right.

Good imformation Lakeview, I have to agree with you, not bad to be in the the top 20% all time and 2nd in wins. I have a couple ?'s for you.
                            Whos #1 in in both?
Wheres Larry Brown rank in these mix.
There is no team in the the MVC that can match up to us the whole game, if our bigs come to play! BU will win the the MVC this year!
