  • IHSA Class Splits for 2008-2009

The cutoffs for the various classes have changed and a few schools will be moving up or moving down in Class........

In basketball & other sports that have 4 classes....
The most significant is Chicago North Lawndale, who Manual finished 2nd to in Class 2A basketball.
North Lawndale will be moving up next year from Class 2A to Class 3A, so will that open the door for Manual to win State?
Another significant change, Chicago Simeon will move UP from Class 3A to 4A, as will Normal Community.
Rockford, Rock Falls, and Ottawa all move down one class in basketball.

In sports that have only 3 classes, Bloomington Central Catholic moves down from 2A to 1A, as does Hales Franciscan, IVC, and Manual.
In sports that have only two classes, Canton HS drops from Class 2A to 1A.

T - I really don't follow HS sports at all, but I am feeling a little confused. And I guess now I am finally understanding why so many people are scratching their heads over all the re-classification crap. So let me get this straight... Manual will compete as Div 2A for one sport but 1A for another.

Boy - with so much progress and advancement in life, you'd think we'd simplified things. LOL!

There has always been a bit of confusion...
Of course we know Metamora competes in football in either 4A or 5A
but they always competed in basketball at the AA level, but now with the new four class system they'll be in 3A.

      Here are some confusing ones...

Every school whose enrollment is above 1652, will compete in AA in sports with 2 classes, then compete in 3A in sports with 3 classes, and then in 4A in sports with 4 classes, but may be in 6A, 7A, or 8A in football depending on how much above 1652 they are!

It seemed like every year my high school lost to North Lawndale. Im sure a lot of school felt that way.

Here are a couple stories about how the jump to four classes in Indiana high school sports has gotten a lot of people upset,
and there is a move to reduce the number of classes at the very time that Illinois is expanding the number of classes.
Among Indiana high school athletic directors, 58% favor reducing the present number of classes.
Right now, virtually all sports in Indiana have four classes (football has five) and the move is on to initially reduce to 3 classes, then maybe later, even further reduce...
