  • How Kansas State Landed Michael Beasley

    Now the facts are out...
while Bob Huggins was there, he convinced the school to hire Michael Beasley's
AAU coach (Dalonte Hill) for $420,000 per year (for 5 years!),
and now K-State is stuck with the deal, even though Beasley is already gone and he only helped them win a single NCAA Tournament game.

    This sounds like money laundering.

    School to coach...to recruit.

What will we Drake fans do without ValleyTalk and Mikovio's "Republicans for Obama" campaign?!?

I found other reports that Michael Beasley was driving a Hummer around on K-State's campus all season, and he lived like a king....a la OJ Mayo, with plenty of costly perks that college students simply don't have. (least of all those who have grown up in the projects and whose families are poor.)
Plus he reportedly never went to class...........
Even a well respected journalist, Jason Whitlock, questioned how Beasley gets a Hummer and pulls all this off?

Here are yet other articles casting some suspicion on just what went on that K-State landed Beasley.

This story says he had FOUR personal cell phones...including a couple that are quite costly. So just who's paying for all this??

By now you are probably sick of reading about Kansas State vs. Kansas, how good Michael Beasley and Bill Walker are, and how KU's streak is ...

OK...on the topic of recruitment....let's just see what the top recruits want from a school before they choose where they play their college careers........

as seen elsewhere, maybe they need to see a prospective school offer a nice job to their mom??

Or as in OJ, they need to be close to the agents and the $$

but I guess this is the latest trend..............
Instead of a kid looking at the campus, or looking at the academics, or even just looking at all the school offers in regards to tradition, locality, great teammates, etc..........

Instead of all the things I MIGHT LOOK AT TO DECIDE WHERE I'M GOING TO GO...

Here is what so many of them say nowadays........(this is from an interview with 4-STAR Demetrius Walker...

"Right now USC is my favorite school," said Walker. "They have shown me the most love out of my top five."

This comes only days after Walker had said....
"Right now, honestly, Indiana is my No. 1 school."

and previously he had said Memphis was his favorite.

So doesn't the kid want to decide using his own brain?
Is he just going to reflexly go with the school or coach who "shows him the most love"?
Is he going to let the recruiters think and make up his mind for him?
I guess that's his right.........go for it....maybe you can be playing at USC when Floyd gets canned and the NCAA sanctions hit the Trojans!

Here's one other precious tidbit in the saga of Michael Beasley's recruitment (and OJ Mayo's as well).

Michael Beasley's mom says that OJ Mayo called her on her cell phone in an effort to try to sway Michael & mom's opinion, and to try to recruit Beasley to USC.

"I got a famous call from O.J. last year. He called me two days before signing day on my cellphone asking for Michael. I'm puzzled, because Michael's away
in school. Who's calling Michael on my cellphone? He says, 'May I speak to Michael?' I say, 'He's not here. Who's calling?'"

"He says his name is like O'Jambolin or something. [Mayo's real name is Ovington J'Anthony]. He didn't say O.J. Mayo. I say, 'Who?' He says, 'O.J.,
O.J. Mayo.' I say, 'Hi, how you doin'? Are you goin' to Kansas State?' He says, 'No, Ms. Beasley,' which drives me nuts. My name is Smith!

"He says, 'Ms. Beasley, I'm just calling to see if we can get Michael to come out to USC.' I say, 'Oh, no, sugar, no, sweetie pie, you need to come to
Kansas State.' He's like, 'Ms. Beasley, we'll look out for Michael. I'll keep an eye out for him myself.'

"I say, 'O.J., you need someone to look out for you! Why don't you just come to Kansas State? It'll be a great team.' He says, 'We'll have a great
team too.' I say, 'O.J., if you were having a great team you wouldn't be calling me at the 11th hour. Call Huggs. I'm sure he'll take you.' So I called
Huggs and said, 'Hey, I just offered O.J. a scholarship. You got one? Dalonte [Hill], you got a scholarship?' They said, 'No, you're the one who offered him a scholarship!

"But I like O.J. He's very marketable. He has a great smile, and he's so charismatic. He's a face for somethin'. Michael's not bad-looking. I tell him to
start smiling a little more and he puts that plastic smile on. But O.J. smiles and the world lights up! Michael, he's just a goofball."

this is hilarious now, in light of the news of how much money was thrown around for K-State to land Beasley, and how Huggins (while at K-State) knew OJ Mayo was on the take and he wasn't going to let OJ come to K-State, but instead OJ found his "calling" at USC where the dollars flowed generously!!
In the end, both made out like bandits!

Dalonte Hill's salary is nothing however, compared to some head coaches.
Wisconsin's Bo Ryan just got a well needed raise to a base salary of $1.2 million,
with his total earnings in the range of $2 with other contracts considered.
This is great for Bo, as the cost of living up there is really steep and it's ridiculous
to expect a guy to get by on only $1 million per year.
