The Raptors pick with selection #17, and Anthony Parker's contract runs out after the 2008-2009 season.
Here is some speculation that the Raptors might consider trying to draft a "swing man" in preparation for losing AP.
"But whatever decision he makes with that pick will affect some long-term
moves. If, for example, he finds a swingman he projects as a starter after one
season coming off the bench, it could have an impact on future contract
negotiations with free agents this summer or with, for example, Anthony Parker
when his contract runs out at the end of the 2008-09 season."
Speculation about the Mavs' Josh Howard for the Pacers' Danny Granger
Patrick O'Bryant is an unrestricted free agent. He has actually been in Las Vegas doing a little moonlighting as the predraft camps employ a few NBA'ers to work out against the draft prospects.
In ESPN's Chad Ford's premium draft blog, he says this...
"Georgia's Giorgi Shermadini has gotten some buzz as a potential late first-round pick....Shermadini struggled Monday. He was
matched up in 5-on-5 games against NBA players like Patrick O'Bryant, Cedric Simmons and Aaron Gray. They just had too much strength
and athleticism for him and he was forced to foul them on virtually every possession."
By the way, one player who is moving up fast as the scouts see him work out is
West Virginia's Joe Alexander. Ford thinks he is safely climbed in to the lottery section
of the draft. Here are a couple examples of Joe Alexander's athleticism...........
He can get his eyes above the rim...
and dunk easily..
