A couple reports from day one of the camp:
NBA Draft scouting reports, mock drafts, articles on NBA Draft Prospects. Extensive high school, NCAA and international NBA draft coverage.

One surprise (not really ) was 7-footer John Riek, who was severely overrated by many ranking and recruiting sites

    was described this way......

" The much hyped John Riek got into some drills and appeared painfully bad
running the floor. He did not participate in the 5-5 scrimmage and when he
has played he has struggled to do much of anything. It is a wonder why he's
even attending the camp considering his apparent injury problem. Hopefully
it's a temporary injury and we will get a chance to see more of him. But as
we've contended all along, he lacks the mobility to be a factor at the NBA
level, and is far from a first round pick. Based on what scouts witnessed
Tuesday, he would not be drafted at all if he stayed in the draft."

hmmm...some college recruiters are licking their chops now.....the kid is still potentially eligible,
but nobody really knows about his background or eligibility, so he may end up at juco like Aziz N'diaye

A couple comments I found interesting from the NBA predraft camps...

      on Illinois' Shaun Pruitt........
"Shaun Pruitt (0-5, 0pts, 7rebs) Not much was expected from Pruitt coming in,
and he did little to change people’s minds.
      "

      On Wisconsin's Brian Butch...
"Brian Butch (10pts, 6rebs) His game is based around the perimeter and rightly so
because he has very little except a nice jumpshot."

On Virginia's Sean Singletary, who the BU guards outplayed in the CBI...
"Sean Singletary (2pts, 2stls) Had a quiet day, and was not much of a factor
on the offensive end. Defensively he is very aggressive and he showed nice
footspeed while containing people off the dribble."

      Gonzaga's Jeremy Pargo...
" Jeremy Pargo had to be wondering what he was doing here with his
performance in Day One. He struggled to show much in the way of point
guard skills and his forte scoring wasn't happening either. He finished with four
points on a dreadful 1-6 shooting performance in less than 14 minutes of
      action."

      John Riek...
"John Riek did not play due to the afore mentioned leg injury. He had a tibia
ligament strain and it is unclear whether he will return to camp."

Junior college 35 ppg scorer Keith Brumbaugh...
"Keith Brumbaugh (6pts, 3rebs) Here for a second go-around, not much was
seen from the JUCO hopeful. His shot may be the most awkward in camp as it has side spin, and he shoots with his hands together, as if he lacks the
strength to get it off. To his credit he is fairly active, and plays with some
tenacity, but those two alone will not get it done."

Prior BU recruit and SWIC junior college player Takais Brown (who got kicked off the team at Georgia)...
" Takais Brown is a bruising big man who played at Georgia before signing a
professional deal to play in Finland. His 2-5 shooting for four points didn't do
much to draw attention to himself. He has good size and strength, but lacks
the explosiveness and skill level to get a serious look in the NBA."

      Ex-Kansas-to-New Mexico transfer JR Giddens...
" JR Giddens has been solid in scrimmages and drills but that didn't translate into the game as he struggled without anyone to set him up. He finished with 7 points on 2-4 shooting. While this performance certainly didn't hurt him, it also isn't a positive and he'll need to pick up his play in the next couple days."

      JR Giddens...
"J.R. Giddens forced the issue with his weak ball-handling skills a little too much at times, but still flashed great potential with some of the moves he made at times. His talent is undeniable, he just needs to polish up his skill-set."

      Ty Lawson...
"Ty Lawson, while showing nice creativity and vision with some occasional passes but also looking too lackadaisical making sloppy scoops that led to turnovers. There is no question that the guy can play, but he remains fairly unpolished at this point."

Here is an ESPN article about some of the top college freshman and how they did at the pre-draft camp--
Following their early defections, Antonio Williams looks at how nine of the nation's top freshmen fared at the Orlando pre-draft camp.

I am a bit puzzled by the author's "Recruit Ranking"....

he has Kevin Love as his #1 ranked player, and Michael Beasley as #8
He also has Eric Gordon (#2) and OJ Mayo (#3) ranked ahead of Derrick Rose (#4).
and he has DeAndre Jordan (#26) and Anthony Randolph (#30) ranked way outside of where everyone knows they will be taken.
He seems to be saying he isn't counting "potential" but either way, this guy's rankings are a little weird, when everyone in America would agree Beasley is better than Love and will be taken well ahead of him.

Those appear to be ESPN's rankings (not the author's) from last year (2007) from prior to the 2007-2008 season.

Has any one heard why Ruffin didn't get an invite. I haven't even heard of
over half of these guys. It's a little surprising that Ruff wasn't one of the guys invited.

Here are some player evaluations from nbadraft.net

                  A couple I find interesting....

John Riek, who many had claimed was a lottery pick and was going to jump right to the NBA and dominate!

"Riek was a mess from the instant he stepped on the floor. His leg injury
made running the floor nearly impossible for him and his chances of getting
drafted appear to be slim to none. His great length has no advantage to him
if he can;t get up and down the floor, much less bang inside with opponents.
If he pulls out of the draft and finds a smaller Div 1 school, he can take some
time to grow into his body and work on his skills. Otherwise it's a fair
assumption that he will fall far short of a lucrative career in basketball."

Then Wisconsin's Brian Butch, and maybe this kind of write up will discourage big guys from going to Wisconsin, if they come out of FIVE years of college there and still can't play the post any better than this...

"A long distance shooting big man who is effective knocking down open jumpers.
He stretches the defense well forcing the opposing big men to play him on the perimeter
as his range is good out to the NBA 3. However, other than his shooting game,
he is not capable of doing much else at this level. His back to the basket
game is nonexistent and he almost never steps a foot into the paint in fear that he might
                  actually feel some contact
. He runs the floor fairly well, but just does not
have much presence on either end of the floor to warrant any serious looks for the NBA.
Shooting big men are dime a dozen in Europe so finding a spot in one of the more respectable
leagues overseas may be a problem for him. He might need to look further East, or
maybe some of the lower level Euro leagues
                  ."
