  • OLD THREAD: Starting five...with updated comments

It seems the roster is set for next year so here is what I would like to see on the floor next year. It will not happen but you can always wish..

    Starting five
    Collins
    Thompson
    Warren
    Dunson
    Maniscalco

I would love to see some of this on the floor..

    Austin
    Collins
    Thompson
    Warren
    Dunson

Who in the MVC could match up with that?

So Theron Wilson isn't going to start, in your opinion?

I would say barring any issues, Maniscalco, Warren and Wilson are book its as dogs would say. The other 2 positions are anyones guess at this time. I have a feeling that Dunson and Roberts will fight it out for another spot and 1 big will start.

I don't have a problem with only 1 big in the game when Warren and Wilson are in the game. My concern is when Wilson is resting, where will the rebounds come from. Of the bigs returning that played last year, I don't see anybody who can fill Wilson's shoes when he is not in. I know Wilson isn't considered a big, but he plays big for his size. I am hoping the younger bigs make big strides in the offseason.

This is what I agree with. There are 2 slots that even the coaches right now don't know who will start, and probably won't until several weeks into organized practices, or even the exhibition games.
Though the 3rd guard spot is close, I think Roberts has the edge starting over Dunson because of his athleticism and scoring ability. The 5 spot is a tossup between Austin, Collins, or maybe Thompson.

            Well, here goes....

            1 SM
            2 AW
            3 TW
            4 RA
            5 DC

I will probably change in next month's thread regarding starting 5.

OK, now who do you think will be in the final 5? Who will finish the game? In my opinion, as the game gets closer to the end BU always seems to get smaller and smaller and smaller. So, give me an ending 5 players that will be around in a close game the last few minutes. That's when it really counts.

I have a feeling the starting 5 in the beggining of the season will be slightly different at the end of the season. AW and TW will be solid starters the whole year. Everywhere else there will be tons of competition.

                      Da Coach,

I have no idea in the differences between Roberts and Dunson at this time. It may depend on what the other team has on who gets more minutes per game. In my humble opinion, whichever 1 can get more boards and play better defense would get more minutes in my book. I am not so worried about there scoring. We need some help rebounding and on defense. For the big/s position I see Sam Singh getting his minutes and I could care less if he starts. He should get more minutes than last year but I don't see Sam being a 30 minute a game player....not sure he can play more than 15-20 minutes and be effective. Sam could get a little better over the summer but for the most part we know what we will get. Nothing spectacular but solid performances. I am not sure about about Rashad or Collins yet. Both have a chance for major minutes if they can improve. The intersting pcs. are Egolf and Thompson. IF and I mean IF either or both of these 2 players can get to a level of solid contributions (I am not saying great contributions) the year could be very, very fun.

Agreed, at least at this point. If another guard emerges, JL would probably prefer that person in at the end instead of RA. Just a guess...

                              PG - Dunson
                              SG - Warren
                              SF - Wilson
                              PF - Austin
                              C - Collins

Starting at the center position, I don't think that JL would put Collins and Thompson in at the same time as they will need to replace each other in the lineup. Singh is solid but AT and DC will be the main guys at the center. I'd say to matchup with our opponents, Austin will play for the four due to size. Warren is a scorer so he'll play the two and Wilson is a great rebounder from the perimeter so I think we could use him best at the 3. Dunson has proven that he is a Big XII caliber guard and I can't help but think that he's gotten better. The coaches that have had him in the past have all talked about one common denominator with him, his positive attitude and work ethic. I'd put my money on it that he'll make this team go. I could also see SM taking RA's spot and moving to the 1, moving everyone else up one position when we want to go with a smaller lineup.
