In the article, Moses says ???‚¬?“You can say that I'm orally committed to DePaul.???‚¬??
He says he will play at DePaul next year but the article also mentions that he has not yet achieved a qualifying test score.
Teammate Mac Koshwal (2007) says he has gotten offers from DePaul, Marquette, and Miami--
Look for DePaul and Boys to Men Coach to be linked together again and again in the future.
I think you will see BTM coach Loren Jackson at a lot of DePaul games, and ultimately he will be named assistant coach there.
In the meantime, he is more valuable getting top talent to BTM then guiding them towards DePaul. This is actually a very good situation for DePaul, and really isn't a bad deal if those kids at BTM can have an opportunity to play in the Big East.
Could this be a wave of the future?
If a private D-I college forms a "strong tie" with a certain nearby prep school, even possibly employs the head coach from the prep school, and maybe even if finances are involved, it isn't anything that the NCAA can stop, is it?
Maybe freshjive can give us some more info on how Jerry has developed such a good relationship there, and whether he has seen Thijin and other BTM kids. In the end, maybe even Bradley can get a closer relationship with Loren Jackson and make some connections at BTM.
A lot of the talk in Chicago and on the message boards is that at least half the reason DePaul went strong after Moses was to be sure they still get Mac Koshwal, Thijin Moses' best friend, roommate, and co-Sudan/African native. This almost guarantees that Koshwal will come to DePaul when he is done at prep school.
Another intersting thing among DePaul fans is the near-return of a very popular guy, the ex-assistant coach at DePaul under Dave Leitao, Gene Cross. Cross was a very strong recruiter in the Chicago area, and very well liked by local AAU folks. Cross has left Virginia where he went with Leitao, and is going to be top assistant and recruiter at Notre Dame.
Cross is an ex-Illini player (deep sub in the 90's).
The relationship seems to be strongest between Loren and Gary DeCesare. I know that Boys To Men players are very much being looked at by DePaul, as the list of strong interests includes Koshwal, Brackins, Jeremiah Kelly, Manny Cass, and Relphorde.
The statement that DePaul went heavy after Moses just to land Koshwal is not something I really am so sure about. Strangely, the feeling is that Koshwal has been DePaul's for a while, and adding Moses will not have much an effect, since Ciepier and I feel that Moses to DePaul is just short of a lock.
Where the Sudan relationship could very well play a big part is in DePaul's recruitment of Teeng Akol. Akol, like Koshwal and Moses, is a Sudanese player, who played this past year at Our Savior New American. Akol is the 48th rated prospect for 2007, and is rumored to have been on DePaul campus yesterday.
And yes, I have seen most all the BTM players in action, so if you have any questions, feel free to pose them over at Blue Demons Nation.
Boys To Men and Other "Schools" -- A Long, But Goo
Here is a very interesting article that mentions both Boys to Men and Mt. Zion, two of X. Crawford's schools. I really hope this kid can hold his own in the classroom.
Thanks for bringing that link back. It is actualy an article published back in February, and it was posted on the board back then and discussed. It sounds like the NCAA has now taken steps to look into many of these prep schools that are little more than "diploma mills".
I am not sure Boys to Men should be linked to the worst of these schools, as BTMA seems to have hired legitimate teachers and have tried to prepare their kids to pass standardized tests. Apparently Xavier did achieve a passing score on his ACT or SAT. Most of the kids that go there were not doing well at the schools they had come from, though I have never heard that this was the case with Xavier.
Moses says ???‚¬?“You can say that I'm orally committed to DePaul.???‚¬??
He says he will play at DePaul next year but the article also mentions that he has not yet achieved a qualifying test score
Several sources refer to the fact that Thijin Moses has not yet achieved a qualifying test score, but they don't seem to think that will be a problem for him to attend DePaul.
They say- The only potential hurdle that prevents Moses from being immediately eligible at DePaul next season is that he has not yet achieved a qualifying test score. However, Illinois Prep Bulls-eye does not anticipate this being an ongoing problem and in the end fully expects Moses to meet NCAA clearinghouse standards.
Everyone seems to think Moses is a cinch to pass the college entrance test if he takes it again.
The ACT has only 1 more test date, June 10, 2006, and the SAT has only 1 more on June 3, 2006. So, good luck Thijin.
My guess is that Moses certainly must have had a minimum of 4 to 6 chances to have already taken the ACT or SAT. If he has not passed it by now, I surely would be a little bit worried.
