  • Jim Les a Politician?

Maybe JL has a future in politics after reading his comments in the last paragraph of todays PJS about BU's signee's. He fip-flops back and forth on the issue BU is going with all the players now on the roster and there is no one leaveing and there are no other players being looked at this time! What is he really trying to say here? To much dancing around for me! Sounds to me like a poltician. Not very convincing and not sure I believe any of it! I'm on record here, that someone will leave and because its so late, there is a JUCO on the way!
Sorry Jim, better stay to just coaching!

So just what was Les supposed to say? Les has to look out for the players first and then do the pr thing with the media. We all know what the PJS is capable of!!!!!!!!
    Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

Agree 100%. If he says we're done when there's a possibility that we're not, some folks will come on here and call the guy a liar. So will the local newspaper. I really don't see the big deal in what he said. At what point do we stop scrutinizing everything that the guy says and just let the results do the talking?

That wasn't my point. I don't understand why people got all bent out of shape because JL didn't want to fully disclose DR's status back in December (something that all coaches do), and I don't understand why people really care how he described BU's status on spring recruiting. He's not doing or saying anything any different than any other coach would. However, for whatever reason, what he says seems to get scrutinized more than the win-loss record, when in reality the record should be all that really matters. The results speak for themselves, and have been discussed ad nauseum on this board. For what it's worth, I think Jim is doing a good job coaching and leading this program and I am hopeful that the elusive conference title isn't too far away.

Bradley Brave and Beni - you guys are so right.
Those in the drive-by media are nothing but a bunch of "nit-pick-n-gotchya" artists. Thankfully, JL is on to their game.

As long as he doesn't pull a Bill Belichick and start making up injuries for his players (see Brady, probable, shoulder every week in the injury report) I'm fine.

I've re-read the last paragraph and I don't see any flip-flopping. Just a coach telling it like it is.

As of today, we're done," he said. "We also know enough that things change, especially in the spring. We're taking it one day at a time and are excited working with this group. Right now, we're done, but that doesn't mean things can't change. Right now, there's nothing going on."

Why not say our roster is set and we're done.......... Why come up with all the variant statements then? I'am not knocking JL but having fun in that it sounds to me that he is trying to convince someone (sounds like he got the job done on one person anyway) just like you hear and read each day from all the politicians. Its all fun but I do stand by my prediction!

                      1.we're done
                      2.things change
                      3.in the spring (clue)
                      4.one day at a time
                      5.right now
                      6.things can't change

The problem wasn't that he didn't want to disclose it. The problem was that he lied about Ruffin's status after he told the team Ruffin would be out.

As for his quote in today's paper, I don't necessarily think he was "flip-flopping" in his statement, but he did leave the door cracked open for something(s) to happen.

Give me a break. If you're going to dissect and split hairs like that, you might as well start criticizing everything a coach says. How many times have we heard this over the years from coaches in all sports -

"We're playing a tough team" - In reality this team is terrible and gets mauled by everyone

                          "They've got a great coach"
                          - In reality their coach hasn't had a winning season yet

"They've got some nice players" - In reality they have no talent

According to the way some are acting on here, this coach would be a dishonest liar for saying things like that.
                          Onward and Upward!

I'm sorry. I just had to respond to this.

You know, I understand not everyone is the biggest Jim Les fan here, and I know occasionally he gets called out for a coaching move, or disciplinary move or whatever (what coach doesn't?). But to be nitpicking over this statement? Come on! This is right out of the Kirk Wessler school or morality. A coach can't ever hide anything, or a coach never ever is truthful because he doesn't want to reveal details about something that hasn't even occurred yet!

Even if you are right Out of Balance, why should he reveal his entire hand here if he still may be trying to secure another player or two, and risk scaring off potential recruits? I just don't understand why people have to get so nitpicky over every little statement someone says.
