GW is having a pretty good season this year! He will not have to wonder if he'll make the Tourney this year.
What do you want him to say? He get's paid by a BCS school and his interest lies in keeping the big boys on top. He's working the system that is out there wrong or right. He speaks his mind and you get upset. Pretty funny really At least he has the b@lls to say it. There are also things he does or talks about that you would never point out i.e. that he never pay an AAU coach to recruit a player like a bunch of other coaches out there. If you really listened to GW you would probably like him. I guess I like to listen to all the different facts before going off on a person. GW rebuilt Maryland from the ashes and has kept then competative in the best conference year in and year out without compromising his values! Oh btw he has a NCAA championship banner to boot with non-McDonald All Americans. The guy can flat out coach!"Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."

possibly, but he made himself the enemy of the midmajors and the Valley with his comments about how BU didn't deserve a bid in 2006 and how the Valley did not deserve 4 bids...
meanwhile, in an almost cosmic sense of karma.... 2 Valley teams made the Sweet 16 and his Maryland team got the top seed in the NIT, got to play at home against the bottom seed, Manhattan, then promptly lost before a record small crowd in their home arena.

Gary Williams might be a good coach, but here is something more objective...
First - GW is frequently criticized by his own local fans and press because of surprisingly sub-par years
How would Jim Les be viewed currently at Bradley if the past few years he averaged finishing 6th in his league, and had only ONE 20-win season in the past four instead of FOUR 20 win seasons??
Gary Williams has at least 5 players (including Vasquez) who are 4-5 Star players, and yet he is always getting criticized by even his own fans for not landing better players.
In the end, Williams has achieved far less than many fans are wanting.....
2008-2009 21-14, 7-9, 8th place - NCAA 1-1
2007-2008 19-15, 8-8, 6th place - NIT 1-1
2006-2007 25-9, 10-6, 3rd place (3-way tie) - NCAA 1-1
2005-2006 19-13, 8-8, 6th place - NIT 0-1
2004-2005 19-13, 7-9, 7th place - NIT 3-1

On the real Terp fans, I can say they LOVE GW! I know quite a few Terp fans and alums and they all have said just like a lot on this board that the local media is full of it! It has been noted that GW and the AD do not get along and if it was up to her she would not mind seeing him go. Guess what? He's staying because of the fans, alumni and Maryland fat cats that love him.
As I said earlier he is standing up for his team and conference and in reality he should. We do not have to like it and frankly we are not paying his salary. I've had the chance to sit in the old Cole Field house and watch Maryland games from the relative box when GW was rebuilding the program when they were unjustly slammed by the NCAA for slight infractions. I met GW and all I can say he is an intense, passionate about his Alma matter as there is in coaching. Oh and by the way he is a winner and get's his players to play as passionate as he is."Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."
