With the Keno Davis situation, was wondering what BU has done to keep Les. Not asking for any classified info, but do we have any idea the salary range at BU right now? It's going to have to be pretty high to Keep JL in the long run.

Does anybody know the answer to the question? I would think that we alums have an interest in knowing this. As the Drake situation illustrates, it's ultimately about finances, and that boils down not only to ticket sales but to alumni support. And without some sense of how well compensated our coach is (or should be), it's a little hard to guage what BU's needs are.

Jim Les will eventually be sought after, and I don't see the wisdom in waiting until that happens to show the guy some loyalty.

After the sweet 16 it was reported that Jim was signed to a long term deal. Specifics were not provided but reports say it put him in the uppper half of Valley coaches at the time.
      Can we start winning soon?

Was Keno expected to to be loyal to Drake? If so, why? And how does that directly relate to Jim Les?

I seem to recall JL get $256K per year at BU.

Nobody knows, and it will not likely be made public. It might be in that range or a little higher, but it is not as much as Lowery, Marshall, or Altman make.
I suspect he is paid fairly well by comparison to other midmajor schools nationally, but Bradley will not be able to match what a BCS or other major school will offer if they want him.

I think that depends. There might be a lot of people out there like me who haven't been asked. I sure hope the administration is committed enough to the program that they will at least try to get that salary to a higher level. When you average 10K per home game and can put together a $100 million construction project, you should be able to shoot higher.

I don't think there are many colleges in the upper half of Division I where the basketball coach, or in some cases the football coach, aren't the highest paid employee at the school.

good point DC. it just seems a little bit ridiculous how much these guys get paid, especially the guys at the BCS schools. but that's sports i guess.

My first reaction to seeing that Davis accepted the Providence offer:

"Providence? Really? You couldn't have done better than that by staying at Drake a little longer?"

Compared to other Valley coaches moving on:

                      Weber to UIUC
                      Turgeon to Texas A&M
Altman to Arkansas (for a couple days)

And Davis takes the Providence job....I'm scratching my head....

Over on VT there's some talk that the DU Prez makes 300K and didn't want the coach being paid any higher than that. If true, Keno made the right move.

Not necessarily. It's possible that with one more year of success at Drake he could have gotten a better job that paid more than Providence.

And also the possibility that Drake will not finish in the top 4-5 in the valley and Keno will lose his opportunity to get a big payday from another school.

Exactly. That's why I think it's a smart move for Keno -- at least in terms of $$$$$.
